Forget the distant machinations of centuries past. Compare the systems that actually exist today, in this precise moment of my typing this.

I am unapologetic in declaring myself a Zionist. Condemn me to hell if you wish, I remain indifferent to the peanut gallery of uninformed insults. Judeo-Christian values were not bestowed upon me in opposition to an innate spiritual partition at birth; they were bestowed to me through lived experience, and for this gradual enlightenment I offer no contrition.

Of course, one may and even perhaps should criticize governments and their policies. Peaceful, respectful protest is legitimate discourse. I accept that. It is the very essence of free expression. I harbor equal affection for every living soul, be they Jew, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, Buddhist, or Atheist.

Nevertheless, I will continue to call balls and strikes with clarity. In the world that shaped me, the most consequential decision-makers in my orbit were animated by Judeo-Christian principles. Their guidance became the surrogate compass that compensated for the lack of guidance I experienced. Someone can call themselves a Christian and if they truly follow with courage that ideology I will celebrate with them.

Unfortunately I turned my cheek too often and I am now paying the steepest of prices so I may be a bit contrite even as I respect the faith. Much of this dismay is due to the fact that those in society do NOT follow Judeo-Christian values as they should, though the template has been in place, the actors in society too often reject it, at all of our perils.

Conversely, the most corrosive, destructive individuals who crossed my path were, with disheartening consistency, those devoid of any faith and their ethical bankruptcy bore witness to that absence.

So yes, by all means, draw comparisons to some ancient actions of doctrine hundreds of years removed. Even then, intellectual integrity demands that such an era be equally compared only with the contemporaneous prevailing systems of that period in time, not with our present reality. It is as intellectually dishonest as comparing an Olympic sprinter of 1906 to one of 2025.

Ask yourself this uncomfortable question: even within that remote historical period, were the cruelties and oppressions more or less severe under any of the other dominant systems and civilizations?

From the autocracy of the Tsars to the manifold despotisms of the Middle East, I am prepared to wager that, given the choice, you would still prefer to contend with the civilization informed by Judaism and Christianity.
