Honestly, no.
I love Italy, and have spent so much time there, it could be my home. But if you don’t have a family in Italy, and if you don’t have a job that really links you into society in a big way, you can be very lonely in Italy.
I have lived in ten countries, and visited 40.
If I had to start from scratch, alone, finding a place where people will be my friends, my choices would be these:

If I had to start from scratch, alone, finding a place where people will be my friends, my choices would be these:
- Mexico (you won’t be alone in Mexico for long)
- Argentina (warm people, and likely to connect deeply once you get past a certain, initial resistance)
- Uruguay (naturally at ease with strangers, easy to talk to)
- United States (yes, really; they are amazing for that, if you are up to it - it’s a go-go-go culture, but if you also are, it could work)
- New Zealand (if you “can do Kiwi”, you will be surprised how quickly you can connect to people there, especially in the northern part)
- Israel (just try to be alone in Israel, it’s not going to happen)
- Turkey (you won’t have a single, lonely day if you don’t want to, and you’ll enjoy their company)
Is Italy the best country to go to if you are lonely?
