Is Florida a good place to take a vacation?

Politic aside, are there nice places to stay at a reasonable price? My def of a "nice place" is generally one that has decent service, doors that open to a hallway, instead of a parking lot or a balcony with metal stairs leading to the parking lot, and where the A/C works well.

Is there somewhere to go where an out-of-towner and his wife won't have their throats cut, and I can uber to a poker room or casino with poker room and not get robbed. We'd like some activities - maybe related to crafts, such as weaving, jewelry making, leather working, etc. - in the daytime, and the gambling at night. Beaches not really an interest, but nature walks are. German and Italian restaurants are a plus, but good seafood is also desirable.

What about near Universal Studios? And how is Universal Studios? We love roller coasters. But close to poker would be more important, since it pays for our trips.

Thanks!

There is a Seminole Casino in St. Pete. Never been to it personally but know someone who lives in the area. They like it well enough. I personally like the gulf side of Florida. We have been to the Panama City Beach area several times. Been to Daytona several times too though I wasn't as thrilled with it.

Thanks! I was going to ask about the Panama City area. I only see one poker room, but it looks juicy.

Doing my part for the local chamber of commerce.

Florida’s Forgotten Coast: Discover Florida’s Most Pristine Beaches

We don't have roller coasters or casinos but it may be the least crowded, most beautiful destination in the state.

Was not impressed with Orlando, but enjoyed seeing the Keys and on another trip stayed on the Gulf coast south of Clearwater.

If you like swimming with gators then Florida is for you!
I've been in the water with gators before. I damned sure got out after seeing them but they didn't seem to be that interested in eating me.

Really don't gamble so I don't know much about that aspect of it. As long as you go when the kiddies aren't in town for spring break or beach week, there is a fair amount of chilling to do. Water is beautiful. Still a pretty family friendly place when the hormonal masses are thin.

I went down there in the middle of winter when I was a teenager. I didn't see any alligators, but there was kabillions of these cute little blue bubble things getting washed up on the beach.

Those cute little bubble things that I body surfed into were Portuguese Man-o-Wars.

OUTCH!!!!

Florida is all about the beaches. If you're not going to go to the beach, why go to Florida?

Go to Reno, Nevada instead and enjoy the gambling life…

My favorite picture I took of an old bridge section near 7mile bridge.

Work was underway to restore all the old bridges into a continuous bike trail the entire 90 miles of the Keys.

Daytona pretty much sucks unless it's Bike Week or Biketoberfest.

For a vacation, check out Destin. The water is a beautiful turquoise blue. Can't speak to whether or not they have any casinos, though...

I wasn’t particularly impressed either. But found a great national park a few miles from there, where l saw the manatees.

Enjoyed my winter holidays in Sarasota, and would go there again.

Anywhere in Florida is a great place to vacation and live in. it's funny how tons of people from around the world want to come to the United States and tons of people in the United States want to come to Florida.

Sometimes you eat the gator and sometimes the gator eats you.

Normally Gators are not all that dangerous unless they are fed by fools. Once that happens they view humans as a source of treats and if the human doesn’t have the treat then they may decide to eat the human.

Florida Disney alligator saw boy as prey, report says | CNN

As far as gators go, given half a chance, you're lunch. They're not an animal which needs to be provoked. They're predators, and they're predators of the highest order...

I've lived here for quite a while now; St. Johns County in northeastern Florida.

Frankly, I'm just about over it.

The humidity sucks. It seriously sucks. In the summer, you step outside and it's like you're trying to breathe gravy. I can handle the heat, but the humidity? Muthafucka' please.

Traffic in and around where we live is stupid. It's just absolutely ridiculous. There have been a number of housing subdivisions built up along seemingly every stretch of unoccupied road, but no one seems to give any thought to infrastructure. Stop lights? Turn lanes? Good luck. We are getting a new Publix grocery store about two miles from the house, so that's nice, but there are no traffic lights being put up at the entrances (which empty onto a very busy road).

I turned 60 last month, and my hot Puerto Rican girlfriend and I have talked about moving... elsewhere. I'm in wonderful financial shape and can certainly retire quite comfortably. She retired from NASA a few years ago and enjoys a healthy pension, as well. We can afford to go anywhere we want.

At this point, though, I've committed to staying here as long as my Mom is around, and my girlfriend is fine with that. But Mom turned 88 on August 21 and, quite frankly, we're pretty sure she's gonna' outlive us all.

When the inevitable happens, though, and Mom's no longer with us, I think we'll sell one of our houses here and use the other in the winter. We'll probably buy a place somewhere north for the spring/summer, and also do some traveling. I like West Virginia, Ohio and parts of Michigan...

I have ate a picnic lunch in a park with gators within 20 yards several times. I was watchful but not worried. They didn’t bother me or my family and I didn’t provoke them.
