Iran lays mines in Strait of Hormuz

Oil markets don't seem to agree.

I checked on that and here's what I found:

"The question refers to the number of mine-laying ships (or vessels/minelayers) in Iran's inventory before the US/Israel strikes began on February 28, 2026 (under Operation Epic Fury).

Iran does not have a large fleet of dedicated, large traditional minelayers like some navies. Instead, mine-laying capability is distributed across platforms, especially in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN), which relies on asymmetric tactics using small boats, fast attack craft, and other vessels that can deploy mines. The regular Islamic Republic of Iran Navy (IRIN) has limited dedicated mine warfare ships (e.g., historical reports note only a handful, like 1-3 specialized ones such as minesweepers/minelayers, with some sources citing just one primary mine warfare ship pre-conflict).

Exact pre-strike numbers for dedicated "mine-laying ships" are not precisely quantified in open sources as a single figure, because many are multi-role or small craft. However, recent reports from the ongoing conflict (dated around March 10, 2026) provide context on surviving capability after initial strikes:
  • Iran retained roughly 80%–90% of its small naval vessels and mine-laying craft after the early phases of strikes.
  • This implies a significant pre-strike fleet of such craft, as the US has since targeted and destroyed specific numbers (e.g., reports of 10, then updated to 16 minelayers/mining vessels struck near the Strait of Hormuz on March 10 alone, described as "inactive" or targeted preemptively).
  • Pre-war estimates (from sources like US intelligence, Congressional Research Service, and naval analyses) suggest Iran had access to thousands of mines (2,000–8,000), deployable from submarines, surface ships, and especially numerous small boats/craft operated by the IRGCN.
The IRGCN's strategy emphasizes dispersed, numerous small platforms for mine-laying rather than a few large dedicated ships. No source gives an exact total like "X dedicated mine-layers" before strikes, but the scale (with 80-90% surviving despite broader naval losses of 30–50+ larger vessels) points to dozens to potentially hundreds of capable small mine-laying platforms pre-strike.

For dedicated or larger mine-capable ships, pre-conflict inventories were very low (often cited as 1–few in the regular navy, with IRGCN relying on small craft fleets). The US focus on striking "mine-laying vessels" post-initiation of mining attempts highlights that many were small/inactive boats targeted preventively.

In summary, there was no single high number of specialized mine-laying ships; capability was asymmetric and spread out, with Iran still holding the majority even after early losses."

That would mean that any Iranian boat of any size entering the Strait of Hormuz would be suspect and probably targeted and sunk.

Oil is going up, not down.

Have just sent a memo to Tehran reminding them

Israel’s five desalination plants, Ashkelon, Palmachim, Hadera, Sorek and Ashdod, produce a total of 50% of its potable water.
These plants are non-movable, not-hardened targets.

Same type of targets available all over the Middle East .

Feel sure this Game Changer is factored in for later but I just wanted to be sure .

Great to see the Cheeky Chappies running rings round the Zionist Terrorists .

Trumpfy has now been strategically trapped and is facing humiliation

HE IGNORED BEST ADVICE AND NOW WILL PAY FOR IGNORING IT
Ever hear of "Tokyo Rose"? I'm gonna call you "Tehran Luiza".

Oil is going up, not down.

Of course it is, and it will keep going up until it goes back down. Just be thankful we're not seeing shortages and long lines at the gas stations, like we did under Carter in the early 70's.

Okay, I was wrong, they did have mine-layers and were doing that:

Is that Trump in the red hat advertisings his Merch again? He never misses an opportunity. Well ... at least he's keeping a bunch of illegals in Carson, CA employed. That's nice of him.

Just the looks you get when someone finds out you are from the US.

No one ever did, but that is not surprising as most Trump voters would no more leave the US than they would cut off a finger.
Sounds like you're projecting your shame at being an American onto foreigners.

I suggest you pick a better country and move there pronto, which is Spanish for forthwith.

Somehow they never recognize and criticize their government’s heinous actions.

It has to be a form of mental illness.

Do you realize our military does not target schools? there is no need or want to do that, if it happens it is an accident. Secondly you know we are still taking out drug boats coming from Venezuela.... Trump no longer needs to do that now to divert from the "EPSTEIN FILES" ! now that the big news is all about Iran.... so why do you think we are taking out those boats?? if they were innocent fisherman in speed boats they would have stopped by now, chances are they really sent by the Cartels.
Fine if you want to criticize but dont take the side of the enemy.

This attack by the US and Israel shows why Iran and pretty much every other country in the world needs nukes.

Notice how nobody ***** with North Korea once they got nukes.

Nobody ****ed with then before they got nukes.

Or maybe the US doesn't really care whether it hits schools, if the information is wrong and kids get killed "well, it's war and [poor] people die in wars".

As for fishermen, well, everyone in Venezuela is super rich, so if you're a fisherman and Trump wants to bomb boats, just take a couple of months off, go take a holiday in western Europe and stay in five star hotels until Trump decides to stop bombing boats, then you can go back to making millions.

We dont care if we hit schools with little kids? We were targeting an IRGC barracks, ( the Iranian equivalent to the nazi SS). Unfortnatly since we are now doing this.... the IRGC needs to be hit and decimated if possible. The people of IRAN would love to rise up against them but until now they have not had a chance.
