The short answer is "practically nothing."
- 1 Top level staffer fired in 23 days.
- Millions of people pissed off by a ban that lasted for a couple weeks.
- Signed a fleury of vague and toothless executive orders and memorandums that by and large do nothing. Many of the executive orders do little but other than ask for status reports. Really? Status reports requested via executive order...that's called publicity stunt. He's the POTUS; all he had to do was instruct them to send them.
- Called on the secretary of health and human services, in addition to other agencies, to interpret regulations as loosely as possible.
- Directed those in charge of evaluating the environmental impact of infrastructure projects to return their assessments in a timelier manner.
- Instructed the Department of Homeland Security to commence immediate construction of a 1,900-mile long wall along the southern border with Mexico, using existing federal funds. What's the status?
- Signaled beefing up the border with an additional 5,000 border protection officers. Not beefed up, just signaled.
- Prevent refugees from entering the country for 120 days and immigrants from seven Muslim-majority nations out for three months. Yeah, that had teeth, didn't it? Not. It's already rolled back.
- Directed the "Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security to undertake all necessary and lawful action to break the back of the criminal cartels that have spread across our nation and are destroying the blood of our youth and other people." Blow me down! An executive order that instructs the Department of Justice and DHS to do everything they can to catch criminals. LOL
- Called for agencies to increase intelligence sharing and submit a report on progress within four months. And that's different from Bush's Policy Directive for Intelligence Community Leadership how? This looks like it's meaningful, but insofar as most monies are granted by Congress and and EO can't do a damn thing to change Congressional legislation.
- "Strip federal grant money from the sanctuary states and cities that harbor illegal immigrants."
- Prioritized removing deportable immigrants who "have been convicted of any criminal offense; have been charged with any criminal offense, where such charge has not been resolved; have committed acts that constitute a chargeable criminal offense; have engaged in fraud or willful misrepresentation in connection with any official matter or application before a governmental agency; have abused any program related to receipt of public benefits; are subject to a final order of removal, but who have not complied with their legal obligation to depart the United States; or in the judgment of an immigration officer, otherwise pose a risk to public safety or national security." Okay....I'll give him this as substantive.
- Directed the Justice Department to use existing federal law to pursue individuals who carry out crimes against law enforcement officers. Oh, good idea. Good idea. Law enforcement officials would never have done that if Trump hadn't ordered it. How ever did the U.S. get to 2017 without cops "pursuing individuals who carry out crimes against law enforcement officers?"
- Designated who will serve as acting attorney general -- and in which order -- in the event that the current attorney general dies, resigns or is unable to perform his normal functions and duties. I have to ask...Does Trump expect the Atty General to expire soon or something?
- Called on the secretary of health and human services, in addition to other agencies, to interpret regulations as loosely as possible.
