Imagine if all High Schools were doing what this one does.

The division of labor is the worst thing that has ever happened to labor. That high school hike just reinforced the dependence on the various skills of others, when in reality everyone needs to possess all of the skills.

Thats the WORST thing that can happen.

Yes, they all need to be cross trained, but those who excel at a given job are the ones who will get things done if or when an emergecy comes up. The avid professional..........who is best at the work and understands it completely..........just KNOWS what to do. Someone who was trained at the same thing, but doesn't grasp the concept of it or even cares for it, would be detrimental to the entire group.

Anyone even marginally familiar with the necessary tasks should leave the group and travel on their own.

So? It's a valid question. How often do you read aloud in public?

Often enough that I could do far better than those children. At any point in my life past....

8.

ish.

And consider the ish to be covering my ass, for YOUNGER ages.

Only kids who can read at grade level should be going on hikes like this. First, you have to master the basics so you can function in society as an adult. Semi-literate adults cannot.
I would deliberately fail tests to avoid it. If that didn't work...self-harm is always an option.
