Imagine if all High Schools were doing what this one does.

The leftard knew that, when he spewed his retarded shit talk.
Yup. What is more needed to be able to support oneself as an adult and be a responsible, contributing member of society?

1) Knowing how to read at a decent level (high school)

2) Surviving a 55-mile hike

I saw a clip recently of some high school students trying to read aloud.

It was painful.

I can believe it. Just as sad, you should see what’s coming out of college these days.

As for me, the longest hike I ever took was 7 miles, both times on my own. Even so, I’ve been able to hone my talents, achieve a career-oriented degree, hold professional positions for 35+ years in which I provided needed services, and retired to a comfortable life.

All that - and never took a 55-mile hike, or 45 miles, or even 15 miles. Imagine that!

There is plenty of time for that, this is a team building exercise to create new life skills in young kids.
Working as team is the least productive way of accomplishing anything. Most team members do little for the overall goal of the team.

True. The most capable one or two end up carrying the incompetent ones.

You have no clue.
The division of labor is the worst thing that has ever happened to labor. That high school hike just reinforced the dependence on the various skills of others, when in reality everyone needs to possess all of the skills.

You don't understand the concept of team building, how important it is, or how valuable the timing is of starting young.

I just believe that the development of the individual should take precedence over team building. If both can be done successfully, I'm all for it.

Team building skills are more critically important than ever before, with the rise of social media and kids being more isolated than ever before.

Doesn't matter. If you get them together all they will be doing is looking at their cellphones.

We need so much more of this in America. The guy in charge should go to the White House and be awarded some kind of medal for this idea.

Many teachers do similar things across the country. Athletics puts kids through similar rigor more than 1 time. The "inner city" schools aren't the problem in America. Any nation that elects a convicted criminal as its president cannot blame the public schools for its problems.

I never said inner city schools are the problem, and this is not about joining the football or lacrosse team at school, this is about ordinary students, some athletic, some not, working together. Bringing together groups that might not otherwise meet. Sometimes it works, sometimes not, everybody learns something.

That's a separate argument that you could conflate to anything you might find wrong with this country (excluding the half that didn't vote for him?), but it is immaterial to this discussion.

I know what you said, and I know what others said. It is not immaterial to say that we should look at ourselves to see what the problem is, instead of railing on public schools. Athletic teams are made up of ordinary students. So is the theatre club, science club, debate team, etc. Extraurricular activity are very important to a kid's growth, and the example you provided was excellent, but talking about going to DC and giving medals like this is something extra spectacular, it's a bit much.

Their cell phones are taken away.
Only the leader has a cell phone, and it's only for emergencies.....and it's not an AI phone.
