I'm About to Get My First Colonoscopy At 35 Years Old

If you are constipated like you said, that is more likely a sign or hemorrhoids or some type of bleeding caused by the hard stool. You might discuss that at your appointment. I have passed red blood during bowel movements after severe constipation and so does my son who has IBS, but he also has hemorrhoids. Just food for thought. If you had any bleeding further up, the blood would be dark brown or nearly black in color.

Talk to the doctor. I only play one on TV. :D

Interesting but I've had hemorrhoids before and they usually caused pain after pooping. I also can poop I just have trouble emptying my bladder completely and this recent frequent urination thing which I can't really make sense of.

Yep, I just double checked about it but I'm pretty sure that the colonoscopy is going to be scheduled afterwards. I'm just really confused and curious about this frequent urination thing and what that could be possibly caused by.
The most common cause of that is a) a UTI or b) a prolapsed uterus. Both quite treatable.

Hemorrhoids can be extremely painful. But for many, maybe even a majority, they are not. And they don't always show. They can be internal and those are often not painful and they often cause occasional bloody stool.

I am not suggesting you diagnose yourself here--a good workup by a competent doctor is the only sensible way to go. Just put it in God's hands and let him do the worrying. There are so many not-all-that-serious possibilities for your symptoms--many more than serious possibilities--that it isn't time to be anxious yet.

Interesting, do you think that they're connected?

Well I sure hope and pray that's all that it is.

I wasn't going to tell you guys this until it started getting serious and final but now I have an appointment to see the doctor on December 8th at 10:00 AM.

I'm guessing that the colonoscopy won't be the same day. I've struggled with constipation in the past but it's all been minor. I can't say I'm completely constipated, I just have trouble emptying myself completely and now I'm getting bloody stools. I apologize as I know that it's gross, but just in case the results come back that I have colon cancer (I think that I would be feeling much worse if it was) I just wanted to prepare you guys for it because a lot of you on here I care about as much as I can with online friends. I'll keep you posted and prayers are appreciated. 🙏

I don't do prayers but the best of luck to you.

I've had two colonoscopies and they've turned out fine. Which is great, because I have a family history of it. It's a relatively painless procedure, it's really the prep that's annoying. (They'll want you to completely cleanse before the procedure.

A quick question (and I'll hide this for anyone who might be grossed out)

If the blood in your stool is bright red, you probably just have an internal hemorrhoid. If the stool is coming out dark, it might be something more serious. But seeing the doctor is a good thing regardless.

But anyway, best of luck to you.

Thanks and it's already been established that it's a bright red stool so hopefully it's just a hemorrhoid.

Be sure to read the edit on the post you quoted. I too often think of something else to add after I hit the 'post reply' button. :)

Hemorrhoids and prolapsed uterus would not be related--I don't think--but could just be one of those coincidences that happen.

You'd know it already if the procedure was on 12/8. Hopefully, you'll,get some relief before then and a colonoscopy won't be necessary. I am 67 and have had 3 of them. The last one was in January 2024.
