Liberty Ridge Farm's owners, citing constitutional rights to free speech and religious freedom, have appealed the August ruling by the Division of Human Rights that they violated state anti-discrimination law.

Their attorney said Robert and Cynthia Gifford paid the $10,000 state civil penalty and $1,500 each to Melisa and Jennie McCarthy, whose 2013 wedding they declined to host. The Giffords testified last year that in their Christian beliefs, marriage is between a man and a woman, and the ceremonies are held at their home, a private space where their own rights should be determinate.

But, I really don't care what you do in the privacy of your bedroom ... or anywhere else, for that matter. I am comfortable with the fact that there are those who don't believe as I do. Again, frankly, I don't care.

I will not impose my beliefs on you in your home or your place of business. If I find that a business is owned by gays, I will not frequent it. My beliefs do not allow me to support their lifestyle. I am comfortable with my beliefs, and I support you being comfortable with yours.

That being said, if you want to ... go ahead. Just don't do it my church, or my place of business.

And that's where you run into problems. When you start denying services to people because you don't like their race or religion or sexual orientation.....you run afoul of the PA laws of many states.

You can believe as you wish. But if you're going to do business in most States, you are subject to some basic rules of conduct with your customers backed by the law. And refusing to serve them because you don't like their race or religion or sexual orientation violates those basic rules of conduct.

You don't have to like gay people. You don't have to want to support their lifestyle. But you do have to treat them fairly and equally in your place of business.
