Here's the thing. We can't have commerce without laws that regulate what both side's obligations are. I get this, I deal with purchase orders and contracts and pricing all day. I couldn't do what I do if I couldn't rely on my vendors doing what they promise and if they couldn't rely on me doing what I promise. Business law is NOT fascism, dude.

When a company says, "We rent wedding halls" or "We make wedding cakes", they've made an agreement with society to provide those services to those who come up with the money. Yes, there are circumstances where you can refuse to do business, but they should be based on sound business reasons.

i'm not sure how you would define the other foot.

As I've said, I've had a gay friend who was fired from her job because she brought her partner to a company party. (This is when I worked for companies that weren't too cheap to have parties.) I've known gay dudes who were beaten up merely for walking on the street.

So I don't get all upset that someone who has a business making wedding cakes has to make one with two plastic dudes on top AFTER he has been paid to do so.
