If you were born outside the country, should you still be allowed to claim American citizenship?

Trump officials say children of some service members overseas will not get automatic citizenship

The policy guidance issued Wednesday stated that USCIS “no longer considers children of U.S. government employees and U.S. armed forces members residing outside the United States as ‘residing in the United States’ for purposes of acquiring citizenship under INA 320.”

“This move by the administration will make it harder for Americans serving our country overseas to have families,” wrote Rep. Val Demings (D-Fla.). “This also appears to be an initial step towards ending birthright citizenship, something which the president has threatened to do—and which would be unconstitutional."

Will this lead to only single people volunteering for the military?

No, married people will still join the military for the benefits. However, I do think that this policy will be factored into the overseas screening that military members have to pass before being able to accept overseas orders.

It's probably also going to give the detailers (people who issue orders to military members) a whole bunch of grey hair trying to figure out if a person is qualified or not.

You have to read the story....... this applies to non U.S. citizens working for the government and/or the military......it does not apply to actual U.S. citizens.

And you realize that there are many non US citizens currently serving in the military, right? I worked with a PN2 at Amarillo MEPS who was a teacher from Mexico who came here on a green card and joined the Navy. I also got to see him finally get his citizenship while he was stationed with me.

And they are not discussed in this article.....and if they aren't a citizen.....why would their children be citizens if they aren't born here? And if birth right citizenship is ended...why would they be citizens if their parents aren't citizens?

Children of non-U.S. citizens adopted by U.S. citizen government employees or service members; children of non-U.S. citizen government employees or service members who were naturalized after the child's birth; and children of U.S. citizens who do not meet residency requirements.

I think we need to fix the immigration mistakes that we have made that have destroyed poor American neighborhoods. Democrats relish in the suffering of the poor. Time to end that

And not a word about Appalachia. The center of the opioid addiction crisis is Appalachia. A place where there’s white people living without running water and electricity.
An area of the United States the covers nearly a dozen red states.

And we’re supposed to believe Republicans care about Americans living in cities and inner-city blacks?

It’s like the guy with the three little cups and the pea.
Where is the pea?

What’s wrong with that? If they don’t meet residency requirements then those children should be automatically made US citizens.

It does not prevent them from becoming US citizens if they really want it.

What is wrong with you people? Why do you keep attacking the military. First the transgender ban and now this?

It’s like Republicans just hate our military.

And they follow a president who says “I like people who weren’t captured. Meaning he doesn’t like POWs. Republicans have lost it. They’ve gone all the way over from just being bad people into truly evil.

I was in headquarters battery third Battalion 16th field artillery 8th infantry division and there were South Koreans and people from South America and Polish and all kinds of people from other countries and they were serving in our military.
And now Republicans want to fuck them over.
Trump wanted somebody else to serve. That’s why he pretended he had a disability so he wouldn’t have to. We have other people who are willing to protect this country who may not be citizens, and Republicans wanna fuck them over. What do they get out of that?

As for the “transgender ban” in the military. The military has NEVER allowed males to pretend they are females and be held to the lower female standards. You biology-deniers want to force the military into allowing males to get out of being held to male standards.

Your post makes it sound like the only reason a guy would want to become a female is just so they can be held to lower female standards, so they just decide one day to be a woman. Sorry, but it's not like that. In order for a trans person to be allowed to enlist, they had to ALREADY be going through gender reassignment for at least 2 years. So, I really doubt that someone would go through gender reassignment therapy for 2 years prior to enlisting, just so they could take an easier PRT test.
