If you ruled the US...

What would you do to change America if you ran it?

The first issue...
Issue and Executive Order mandating every federal department manager become 100% accountable for the performance of their employees and the department as a whole.
An EO mandating all social programs be purged of all recipients who are gaming the system..This order would charge the Congress with the duty of streamlining all social entitlements. This would free up money to go to the truly needy. Reduce the percentage cost of administration to 30% of all monies directed to the programs.
An EO mandating the Congress develop a reduced compensation system for all members of the US Senate and US House. The goal would be to reduce pay by 50%....$90,000 per year is enough to live on.
An EO reducing the time Congress is in session to 6 weeks per legislative year. Senators and HOuse Members should be home, in the presence of and available to their constituents. Not hiding up in Northern VA or The Maryland DC burbs, hobnobbing with wealthy contributors and playing golf at TPC Avenel or Congressional
An EO prohibiting all former members of Congress from becoming employed by any Lobbying firm that visits or communicates with any current member of Congress. Nor may they be self employed in the same capacity.
The elimination of federal worker's unions. The elimination of the practice of padding hours to boost wages in the years prior to retirement.
Elimination of the practice of "banking" vacation and/or sick time.
An EO lengthening the time of service for members of the Congress to be eligible for federal pension.
Call a joint session of Congress televised, streamed on the internet and of course broadcast on radio with the purpose of telling them and the American people the Congress will begin work on a Balanced Budget Constitutional Amendment. Work to be completed in 6 months.
Cutting federal non military employment in increments with the goal of a 33% reduction in federal employees by the end of the presidential term.
Privatizing certain functions where the private sector can do a better less expensive and more efficient job....For example, the taxpayers should not be employing people to cut the grass on the public properties in Washington. Eliminate the Washington DC ( US) Park Police....This is a redundant service. The City police can handle this.
Either take AMTRAK into the 21st century or put it out for bid in the private sector. It's a gigantic drain on the taxpayers.
An EO rescinding the rule that mandates states be prohibited from placing tolls on highways designated as part of the Interstate System.
Ending the federal prohibition of marijuana. Folks, this is coming. The states are thumbing their noses at the law anyway. Oh, in return, the federal tax on marijuana sales whether seeds plants or finished product is 10%.
Immigration. Allow states to assist and enforce all existing federal immigration laws.
Reduce the number of infantry troops stationed in countries allied with the US...These troops will be assigned to protect the norther and southern borders of the US. Also, place troops at our major seaports.
Establish a guest worker program for all illegal aliens. Each undocumented person will pay a $1200 fine at $50 per month for 24 months. $1,000 if they agree to pay in 12 months.
Banish the IRS to a 8th level sub basement.....In the above joint nationally broadcast joint session of Congress, announce an EO mandating the Congress develop and pass legislation for a flat 15% income tax with the first $19,730 exempt for all earners below the national top 10% of wage earners which is about $200,000 per year.
Eliminate ALL individual deductions. I will seek advice on business taxes and put a plan together that has business paying a reasonable percentage while making business ownership attractive.

If I ruled the US as President, my first action would be to sign an EO saying Congress nor the SCOCTUS have any right to strike down any EOs I may issue. Then, I would issue a second EO saying that a new Constitutional Convention is to be called with delegates from all states present elected for that one purpose, writing a new Constitution. I, naturally, would appoint myself President of the Convention. As president of it, I would try mainly to redefine and reinforce the protections and rights guaranteed by the Constitution, as well as reform the structure of Gov't.
I would make the Supreme Court have eleven justices: 5 elected from regions of the country, 3 appointed by the POTUS, and 1 elected by each chamber of the Congress (I would make three branches). Also, justices would have term limits and would be staggered to ensure each president gets to appoint so many. The Congress would have 3 houses: one proposing social laws, one for matters of economics, and another for world affairs. Each house would be comprised of 150 members, each state being granted 3 representatives. On matters of joint responsibility, one house may plead to the SCOTUS to review it and call for all houses involved together to vote on it. To pass a law, the proposing branch must achieve a 60% majority, followed by at least a 30% minority from the other houses. Each candidate is only allowed to be in 1 house at a time. The president would be forced to relinquish much power to an elected group of specialists similar to the Cabinet, and would be elected to 5 year terms, can be elected twice, and if a 80% majority of all houses vote so, a recall election may be held to throw out the old president.
What would you do?

Put down the bong, go to sleep, and get back to school tomorrow. You've still got a lot to learn, kid.

I think this guy just tried to school someone but showed he has no schooling. Probably reflecting.

Which guy?

Well, first of all presidents don't 'rule' the country. We have elected officials who are supposed to serve us, not behave like dictators. Understandable why that's not clear these days since it feels like 'we the people' are being dictated to on a daily basis.

We need to get back to basics. Secure the borders. Illegal aliens who committed crimes need to be sent back home. Expensive, yes, but we'd save billions in the long run. English as the official language. Stop all the foreign aid to countries that hate us and burn our flags. Let them borrow the money from China instead of having us to it so we can give it away. We need reasonable tax rates. Welfare to work for all able bodied people. Tough sentences for violent criminals. Fair regulations a must and they need to be upheld. Less bureaucrats. Maybe eliminate a bunch of government agencies and simply have a department of common sense. Repeal Obamacare. Allow insurance companies to compete across the states to bring costs down. Also don't allow big pharms to have a monopoly.

Common sense is absent is so many laws they write. One size fits all doesn't work when you're talking about regulations. Lemonade stands are held to the same standards as food production companies and it's screwed up. No common sense. Liberals shouldn't buy lemonade from kids if they don't trust them, but I know the neighbor kids here aren't going to poison me.

I'm tired of the entire country being treated like the biggest idiot in the country. Tragedies happen because people are careless or even reckless. That doesn't mean we should all have to have cameras in our cars, buy buckets with small holes in them or be forced to have child proof caps when we don't have small children in the house. We should be able to conserve water by being allowed to catch rain water in barrels to keep our garden healthy. We shouldn't be taxed on virtually everything.

Most of the regulations - for our own good - usually mean that politicians found another way to get money from us. Most of the things they focus on are ways to force companies to spend more money or for people to pay fines. It's all about the money and how they can get their grubby paws on it.

No more political correctness. No more hate crimes. Crime is crime. Murder is murder. Lock 'em up and throw away the key when they commit cold blooded murder. I don't give a damn why the assholes did it.

No more affirmative action. It should be about ensuring fairness. If anyone discriminates, punish them, but don't tell companies who they have to hire. And schools need to stop rearranging students so there's a color balance. School choice has been taken away because of idiots who don't see people, just color, and they want the color redistributed so it's more even. Parents need to choose the school for their children, not government.

Government needs to stop trying to micromanage our lives and get back to their constitutional duty of enacting fair laws and regulations and upholding them, protecting the people by having a strong military and secure borders and remaining small enough for the people to keep track of. Government works for us and yet no one even knows what's going on half the time. Obama claims not to know what is happening in his administration. How are we supposed to oversee our employees when there are too damn many of them?

Congress and the president must follow all laws they enact. No exemption to Obamacare, insider trading, etc. They need to follow their own laws. They cannot allow themselves more liberty and freedom than the people. That is tyranny and it needs to stop.

The President does not have the power to do any of what you wrote. Thanks to the Constitution.

The two legal and Constitutional ways to call a Convention do not involve the President at all. One is for Both Houses of Congress to call for a Convention and the other is for the States to do so. Further neither method provides that the sitting President of the US is President of the Convention.

Executive Orders are only statements clarifying what the President intends the Executive to about laws. He does not have the power to declare he is above the Supreme Court nor the Congress. Further he can not use an executive order to make new law nor to declare another branch of the Government is not allowed to preform its constitutional duties as spelled out BY the Constitution.

I disagree with the concept that anyone should "RULE" the U.S.

I would declare the federal government illegitimate, call for the states to renegotiate the terms they have as a union, vest all federal power distributions among them equally and then resign.

Is this an "If I had total Godlike control" or "If I were President" question?

For if it were total control, IMHO it would be run like someone leads their own personal life... Much different than if you were put in the supreme executive position that is supposed to have rules of governance

I disagree with the concept that anyone should "RULE" the U.S.
Indeed. WE the people are to rule our own lives while respecting that of others, and it's government's objective to protect that premise (LIBERTY...True Liberty, the Founding). Right now we have RULERS (The political Class Elitists...those we elect to supposedly safeguard our liberty), running our lives on every front. This shit has to stop.

Bring America back to around 1965 in governmental structure and fund science, r&d and infrastructure the way it should be.

And you guys think us libertarians want to go back in time.

:lmao:

Going back when we were at the top of our game and when the government was more respectful of our rights. You're the ones that want to go back to 1785!

Precisely what will happen if things continue on the present track and the attempt to invoke Article 5 fails.
