This problem was caused by the Government getting involved in student loans to begin with. Before you had to go through a bank, and that loan officer said yes or no based on any number of things, also colleges had to keep prices reasonable because most 18y/os arent getting a 150k loan from a bank. All that changed when the Government took over student loans. so no, just simply paying off the student loans aren't even a good thing...there needs to be massive reforms in the program and the government is not interested in taking on these issues.
But the average working person could really use the assistance.
They can if the prices are too high for the education...and then limit what degrees the loans can be used for. Like keeping our treaty with Ukraine....the execution of keeping it is crap...but it's the right thing to do.
The push for new cheap energy is good....the execution is crap.
New tech for transportation is good....again execution is crap.
Returning semiconductor tech to the USA is good....again execution is crap.

I am far left, but the Ukraine can never be allowed to join NATO.
The Ukraine is inside the Russian defense grid, to if it joined NATO, that would give the US a first strike capability.
Russia would have to nuke the US before letting that happen.
So the US giving trillions to the Ukraine for weapons is really a bad idea.
The only possible results are for either the Ukraine to be defeated, or the US getting nuked.
And personally, I much prefer the Ukraine to be defeated over the US being nuked.

But they weren’t wholesale backing student loans, like we are now. What’s happened with college tuition is the natural and inevitable consequence of that. Colleges have just reacted to market forces. The government has said not only will they give most people a loan for X amount they’ve taken all the risk away from the colleges. It’s not like if the loans don’t get repaid the colleges don’t get their money.Wrong.
Pell grants go back over 50 years.
Tuition back then was $100/semester back then.
The problem is that universities have sold out and are only profit motivated these days, just like hospitals and medical suppliers.
What we need instead is more socialism that is not profit motivated.
That is what the whole rest of the world does, and it works better.

The left has some good ideas but forcing people to solve problems in a very strict rigid dictatorial fashion is not good. We have a constitution...let's leave it alone because it has been working well for 250 years. Stop harassing a few wealthy citizens because you disagree with them. And especially leave the first amendment alone....however force these social media platforms to have an origination nation on posts...it's not identifying them except for the nation they are from. It will stop the foreign influence/propaganda in its tracks.
The Right has some good ideas too...but again their execution is crap. There needs to be accountability for the resulting solutions...especially when the Lazer focused solution ends up harming others. The national debt is going to plunge the nation into chaos and recession....people don't invest in businesses in this sort of environment...but to push for policies to line your own pockets?
How about Nancy Pelosi? She bought millions of stock and options lately....maybe look at that. Maybe appoint a decent SEC Chair for a change!

And it very much is as easy as I'm saying...don't believe the hype of ISP's or the fiber optic line people. It would take about ten minutes at six server terminals to make it happen. That's about it.
What it is is that 8 bits to a byte and 8 bytes to a character. So....about 16 bytes of data bandwidth would need to be designated to a country of origin....across the undersea cables it's a lot...but not unreasonably so. Pretty easy and relatively inexpensive. (Although they will whine because "import taxes" can be applied.
