I wonder why most beer drinkers never heard of mead or ale

Because those are supposedly the oldest drinks known to man. One is a drink known from Beowulf and the Norse Berserkers who plundered most of Europe 1000 AD.

Also if you have played Skyrim, you would know of mead.
 
Most beer drinkers will drink ale

Mead is rarely available. Think it is made from honey

First time I ever got drunk was on Genesee Cream Ale. (and I did check, it is actually an Ale)

I think pretty much everyone knows about them. As far as I'm aware neither is readily available here in the US.
