If I remember correctly, the Bush administration released a few hundred detainees during its years and got nothing back for it.
But now the scandal is that we released 5 in exchange for 1 POW who got disillusioned with the war at like the age of 22?
Considering how fucked up that war was, how many times we kept redeploying people (record amounts compared to any other war in US history) and that many people joined the military because they responded to the message that our people would go over there to "win hearts and minds", I can cut a young guy some slack for becoming a totally bi-polar mess at the thought that he was put in a bad situation without the proper training or discipline, was not ever put in situations with clear and winnable objectives.
If you totally mess up your conduct of the war from the top, you're going to see it reflected at the bottom with erratic wartime behavior. Pretty simple.
If you believe this is a Christian nation, than the right thing to do is to lend a kid some forgiveness, get him some help, and then see what his mental state is before you make ignorant accusations based on right-wing blogs.
