I didn't vote for long term tariffs.

I'm hoping rather than just rating my post "fake news" they can explain why it's fake news. I'm hoping someone can justify to me why we need to pay higher prices?
Just ignore Trump's pets; they are always loyal to him because he feeds them. lol. :)

👉 The term "fake news" has been widely associated with MAGA (Make America Great Again) tactics, especially during Donald Trump's presidency.

Trump used the phrase to discredit media outlets and reports that he deemed unfavorable or critical of his administration. By labeling certain news as "fake," he aimed to undermine public trust in the mainstream media, positioning himself and his supporters as the true arbiters of information.

This strategy served multiple purposes: it created a rallying cry for his base, fostered a sense of solidarity against perceived bias, and shifted the narrative away from serious criticisms or controversies.

The term also played into broader debates about misinformation and the credibility of news sources, particularly in an era of rising social media influence where the line between factual reporting and opinion became increasingly blurred.

In sum, the use of "fake news" by Trump and his supporters reflects a tactical approach to shape public perception, delegitimize opposing viewpoints, and consolidate power by controlling the narrative surrounding their actions and policies. This branding of news as "fake" has had lasting implications for media discourse and public trust in journalism.

I voted for Trump to lower prices. I voted for him not to cause trade wars with other countries. Now we're all going to see price increases.

I hope those willing to endure the economic hardship so we can stick it to other countries can justify to me why this was necessary. Why did we need these tariffs when we could have done something to ease the pain here in America?
I tried to warn you Trumpers this was coming 4 months ago after the election. You now get to learn the hard way, right along side all the liberals that you hate.

I guess you thought Project 2025 was a total joke....however, the joke was on you. Trump is back in the White House and he doesn't need you MAGA peasants anymore.

I guess you all didn't realize that "owning the libs" meant owning yourselves also.

You sure screech like a leftist

You can GFYS to. I just can't stand lying, big government, big spending politicians. Especially RINO's.
I want a strong conservative party that can start kicking the democrats around.
The GOP has been weak AF (and corrupt) since Reagan.

I'm sick of their excuses. I'm sick of their smoke & mirrors. And I'm even more sick of RINO voters sticking up for POS's like Trump.

Congress is in charge of tarrifs. They can change this in a heart beat.

"The law that President Trump is using to cause such havoc is known as IEEPA. It’s supposed to be for emergencies, but, given that it gives the president free rein to determine when an emergency is in force, it’s effectively a non-justiciable enabling act. Congress can repeal it, amend it, or pass a separate law that supersedes it, and there’s nothing that anybody can do to stop it. Such a law could exempt Canada and Mexico from its provisions, or make clear that other tariff deals involving those countries (like the one Trump signed in 2019) have precedence, or do anything else that Congress wants it to do, because — again! — Congress has plenary power over tariffs. Heck, if Congress passed a law that simply read, “All delegation of the legislature’s Article I, Section 8 tariff powers is hereby rescinded,” that would immediately be the law of the land."

Trump and his team of technocrats and transhumanists are actively working on moving everything to AI....

This is true.

so eventually a lot people are going to be out of jobs.

Musk himself even publicly admitted that.

But that's only one aspect of things.

I don't believe that the folks who tend to talk about these things that you mention (meaning the technocrats) think things through as thoroughly as they should if they're going to give that particular aspect of current events their time and effort.

Technically speaking, you're dealing with a literal breakaway civilization type of mindset and demograph there. And that's a much broader discussion. And I've seen none of you go there with it. It's actually a very fascinating aspect to current events, depending on how far down the rabbit hole you wanna go. There's a reason that people like Musk are maneuvering themselves to attain direct governmental power.

We don't have free market capitalism.

We have central economic planning by a central bank.

We have a belief in deficit finance.

We have economic interventionism.

We have inflationism as a result.

We have a welfare state.

There's a lack of understanding of proper definitions and understanding of what kinds of policies we actually have.

We're so far removed from free-market capitalism that it is laughable to even call it that.

And we have government to thank for that.

You mean the crony capitalists?

Government, in its curent state, picks and choose which top dogs do and do not benefit from tariffs.

This is where the word ''temporary'' goes out the window. Especially ehe nit comes to government measures.
A free market, as defined by Adam Smith, is a market free from "rents", as described by Henry George. You are correct, that is not the case currently, not even close. But current actions, and the current administration, are only seeking measures to exacerbate the problem.

While we have a central bank, absolutely necessary in the modern economy, we do not have central planning. That is the definition of Communism, a command economy verses a demand economy. We still have a demand economy.

Deficit financing. It can be a bad thing. But it can also be good, very good. The key factor, the cost of borrowing. If you get a better return on your funds than you pay in interest, well hell, borrow some more. But it is a wicked mistress that can go south in a hurry.

I've come to that conclusion too. Well, for the most part. I HAVE seen a few individuals here who have broken away from the herd to think about things more thoroughly and ask questions. (and it annoys me when they get attacked, as we can see on this thread) But still too many people are not 'zooming out' to see the bigger picture and where everything is actually heading, iyam.

Ooo, another financial guru on a forum!
Just being realistic and truthful....I've lost thousands in my 401k in just the past two days.

Hopefully it will come back up again, but who knows...it may just get worse as our economy suffers from the tariffs and counter foreign tariffs?

Oh yes fear and doom by the disaster peddlers.
Can't wait to see how this post ages.
Better start figuring out now how you're going to be spinning this as yet another disastrous debacle that "wasn't Trump's fault" because he's not going to be able to weasel his way out of this one.
Social Security, just like guns, is called the "third rail" in politics.
Messing with it is political suicide.
65 million people missing their anticipated income all at once will bury Trump (and his pimp Elon) overnight.

Ya, people insist walmarx and dollar general sell the same thing as a quality store, and I'm the blind one.
Can you name a quality store selling only American made goods? I'm not aware of any....but it could be they are just too expensive for our income level and me and the hubby to know about...?

There are American companies that sell quality made goods, made in America is in everything I look up on Amazon!

I just noticed that you added on to your post after I replied. So if you want to, please esplain what you meant by 'Ive seen none of you go there with it.' Maybe I misunderstood who you were talking about...? I thought you were talking about the demographic here on USMB.

The people who always talk about the technocrats.

That's absurd.

If you don't mind my asking, how do tariffs impact the Social Security payment system?
They won't, but you missed the point which was how the convict's (and his pimp Elon's) policies are going to destroy the economy.
Consumers will feel the impact of these tarriffs and Trumpflation immediately at the supermarket.
American farmers are now screwed as well because after taking out the revolving, yearly bank loans to plant and grow this season's crops there will be no way to pay the loans back once their crops are harvested but payday never comes because the soybeans and corn are sitting in silos with no buyers as a result of Trump's tarriffs.
And as if this degree of economic destruction isn't bad enough, Now Elon is crippling The Social Security Administration putting the lives of over 65 million Americans, many Trump voters, at risk of missing payments.
Trump/Musk and Republicans in congress who are SUPPOSED to be seving as a check and balance to this rogue administration but aren't are gonna OWN it all.

The people who always talk about the technocrats.

....and? What rabbit hole are we not going down? :confused-84: Lol, obviously I completely misunderstood who you were talking about. But I do want to hear this, if you want to elaborate.

Trillions of dollars on the green deal and we got two solar panels and a windmill. And a lot of corrupted people with fat checkbooks.
