I didn't vote for long term tariffs.

/——/ Those who vote democRAT vote for tax hikes, loss of liberty and for a third world socialist slave state.
Truman 2.webp

I voted for Trump to lower prices. I voted for him not to cause trade wars with other countries. Now we're all going to see price increases.

I hope those willing to endure the economic hardship so we can stick it to other countries can justify to me why this was necessary. Why did we need these tariffs when we could have done something to ease the pain here in America?
The US has had tariffs for longer than you've been on this earth.

Am sure we could work something out, maybe not perfect but much better,
If we could work it out together, as a more united nation.
The fact that the US has had tariffs for longer than you've been alive suggests that we haven't found any economists that have suggested anything more effective.

C'mon, TK, surely you heard Trump during last year's campaign explain that central to bringing the cost of goods back down was lowering the cost of fuels because transportation is a big factor in the retail price of stuff, and that he figured it would take about a year for that all to kick in, so we are not looking to see significant cost-lowering until next Spring.

As to the Tariffs, other countries have been at a trade war with us for ages. Something like 160 countries had tariffs on OUR goods so as to make theirs and others competitive effectively shutting us out of many markets. We are not "sticking" it to anyone, we are fighting for a fair and level trading table between us so that American business can prosper.

And it is only a fool's errand to not realize that a country cannot spend itself 40 trillion dollars into debt and not have to endure some pains (economic contractions) digging ourselves out of it, as obviously, the first avenue to lowering debt is to CUT SPENDING.

/----/ Yeah, that was 75 years ago. Truman said nothing about open borders, healthcare for illegals, men using girls' locker rooms, men playing girls' sports, or any of the other perversion tpday's democRATs push.

Other things Truman did today's democRATs would lose their shyt over:

1952: Officially created National Day of Prayer

Our National Day of Prayer is a significant part of our heritage. In 1775, during a meeting of the Continental Congress, all of the colonies were asked to pray for wisdom as the policies to govern the nation were being formed. During the Civil War, President Lincoln proclaimed a day of "humiliation, fasting and prayer," and in 1952, President Truman signed a joint resolution from the Congress officially creating a national Day of Prayer.

The basic source of our national strength is spiritual

The elements of our strength are many. They include our democratic government, our economic system, our great natural resources. But these are only partial explanations.
The basic source of our strength is spiritual. For we are a people with a faith. We believe in the dignity of man. We believe that he was created in the image of the Father of us all.

The US has had tariffs for longer than you've been on this earth.
We began to lower tariffs during the administration of Franklin Roosevelt because we learned that they were harmful. Trump still has not learned. Neither have his poorly educated cult followers.

They've been raised an lowered multiple times since FDR. The cult are you and your democrats that expect economic changes to happen with the blink of an eye---you know like they did when the vegetable declared war on fossil fuels.

Correct. And he's doing what he said he would do.

DEMOCRACY IN ACTION! Campaign on a platform, get ELECTED to carry out that platform!

Simple!

Why do you hate democracy?
He's illegally doing it, without Congressional approval, speaker Johnson is his enabler, with his scummy, dirty, tricks. Its also why congress is on recess....when he brings them back they have to vote on the tariff emergency issue....

What if you could prolong today to avoid making an uncomfortable decision tomorrow?

For most human beings, that’s not possible. But in the alternate reality that is Congress, which operates according to its own arcane rules and precedents and is exempt from the statutes that bind the rest of us, a day can be as long or short as the laws of political gravity demand.

That is how it came to pass that House Republicans in recent weeks declared the rest of the year one long day when it came to considering a challenge to President Trump’s tariffs. They would prefer to avoid votes on whether to scrap the levies, but the law says the House must consider them within a set period of time.

The obvious solution? Stop time.

Speaker Mike Johnson’s recent efforts to freeze time have been more conspicuous — and longer lasting. Last month, he quietly pushed through a provision that contained a calendar gimmick ensuring that no lawmaker could force a vote this year to end Mr. Trump’s tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico. He used the same trick on Wednesday to head off a vote until at least October on the global tariffs Mr. Trump announced last week and then partially paused.

The first measure stated that “each day for the remainder of the 119th Congress shall not constitute a calendar day” for the purposes of the emergency Mr. Trump declared on Feb. 1 to impose the tariffs on Canada, China and Mexico. The resolution approved on Wednesday used the same language to stop any member from forcing a vote on the rest of Mr. Trump’s tariffs through Sept. 30.

When is a day not a day?” Representative Thomas Massie of Kentucky, who was the only G.O.P. member to oppose both moves, wrote on social media. “Answer: when Congress circumvents the law requiring a vote on Presidential National Emergencies within 15 days.”
