How would you improve our health?

For starters:

  • Stop all agricultural subsidies
  • Get rid of FDA food guidance (i.e., saying that froot loops are healthier than beef)
  • Get rid of regulations that forbid real food (i.e. raw milk)
  • Get rid of EPA regulations that hurt small farmers
  • Get rid of "cosmetic"regulations that favor uniform appearance (and lower nutritional value) of fruits and vegetables over actual healthy products
  • As long as we have food stamps/benefits, forbid them being used on low nutrition items such as sodas and ulltraprocessed packaged foods
  • Encourage regenerative farming that restores top soil and results in healthier grains and produce
  • Get the government out of the school lunch program that pushes Big Food crap products on kids
  • Teach home economics in schools again (along with shop and woodworking classes - i.e. real skills for the real world)
  • Get rid of the 70+ vaccine schedule for children
  • Require real physical education that involves speed, strength and flexibility exercises

Natural coloring agents are being explored and introduced. Maybe JFKjr's efforts will help this along.
As long as those natural substances are suitable for human consumption. Sulphur for instance is a natural substance and provides bright yellow color but you wouldn't want it put in your kids' breakfast cereal.

We had all that once. None of the above will help as long as people are willing to risk life and limb to do what they want to do. People aren't like horses. A horse will yield to pressure, man fights against it.

There are natural coloring agents, but they are more expensive.

Things like agricultural subsidies should be included in the debate for sure, and those that encourage what is detrimental to a healthy food supply should definitely be axed. Absolutely things like paying farmers to grow corn to be used in ethanol should be stopped. The requirement to use ethanol in motor fuel should be ended as well and we should be growing good healthy food for human consumption which will help bring prices down.

But I can see a reason for subsidies that encourage American production of necessary foods that would not otherwise be available to us. The operative word here of course is necessary. Instead of paying farmers not to grow anything which the government now does when there is an over supply, make it profitable for them to switch to something the people really need. Instead of growing wheat for instance, grow broccoli or watermelons.

I had "Woodworking" and "Electricians" classes in jr high school. We made a bric-a-brac shelf in woodworking, and wired a battery powered doorbell in "Electricians" class. In the same time we could have built and wired a small one-room house from the foundation to the shingles including doors and windows. A fucking waste of time.

We had all of that before the Feds took over the food supply via the FDA and federalized our health via pro-Big Pharma and Big Insurance regulations.

Stop treating citizens as patients and livestock.

Did you learn anything more useful than what you would have in a gender grievance class?

The only way to change over to sane agriculture is if the population stabilizes and people eat much less food. What are the chances of that happening?

We get what we subsize - and that is a lot of obese adults and single parent children on welfare. The government feeds them ultraprocessed trash. Stopping that would be a good start.

Who should stop first, the producers or the consumers? Here's the thing. If the government (SNAP) restricted benefits only to healthy foods the recipients would buy the same junk food but with their own money.

Again natural and edible can be two different things. I want substances that are healthy for human consumption in our food supply. If that means no coloring in the cereal or M & Ms, so be it.

He likes direct cash. They understand completely.
Your TDS is showing. Remember that Trump donated his entire salary back to the government for the entire four years of his first term. And other than finishing up contracts they were already obligated to do, he and his sons did no new business overseas for those four years. Family members who worked in the administration also did so without salary or expense accounts. It cost them billions.

That is not how somebody wanting money behaves.

But this thread is about how the government can help improve our health. How about you focus on that for awhile?

Educating kids into not eating junk and fast food would be of great help. Even if it means hurting businesses. Too bad.

If you were the head of HHS, what would you do to try to improve the health of America?

Change it to a NHS style system, though with changes in certain things.

The US federal government spends (or spent the last time I worked it out a few years ago) more per capita on healthcare than the UK govt does (or did)

For that the UK gets healthcare free on delivery for all people. The US get some people getting healthcare free at the point of delivery and most people having to pay for private healthcare (let's call it a con job), meaning the US spends a lot, lot more than the UK does.

The US pays for insurance companies to take 15% of all money put into the private system before anyone's even started on the healthcare.

Then you have pharma companies, doctors and hospitals playing the system knowing that because the insurance companies "are paying for it" they can literally charge whatever they want. You're looking at 50% of all money going into private healthcare not going to actual healthcare, but lining people's pockets.

Don't know where he stands on that. But I do know he is interested in identifying anything that is creating an epidemic of general unhealthiness in the America people. His job is not to look for cures but rather causes and dangers and eliminate those as much as is reasonable.
A lot of it is unhealthy thoughts.

What you think about you bring about.
