Why doesn't government promote better health?

Why do they believe that the only way to better health is through medical healthcare funded by medical insurance. Why is lifestyle either virtually ignored or barely mentioned. Are Americans so sick that only our doctors can save us? And, if Americans are so ignorant about good health practices where are the health experts that would teach them the way to good health?
MAHA baby

how so?

the little chubsters should exercise more and eat better lunches at school
Those better lunches were the problem. Most kids would not eat the garbage food that they were served, and football players in high school were starving by the time they finished practice after school.

I was there. Where were you? I taught at a high school for 10 years. I never once ate what the kids ate, and neither did my two kids who attended that school. Guess who was President?

Well, I was long out of high school by the Obama era, so I’ll take your word for it

What I do remember, in the late nineties, was that middle and high schools were riddled with pop machines in the hallways and fast food chains in the cafeteria

I feel it was/is definitely the government’s responsibility to ban stuff like that

I taught from 1996-2018. Never saw anything like you claimed.

My high school had pop machines all over the place and a Pizza Hut in the cafeteria

The most popular dish in the “regular” part of the cafeteria was what was called a “nugget basket”. Chicken nuggets with fries on top, all of it covered in fried cheese

The school administration should have been canned for allowing it

Think about it this way.

Healthy people live longer, which means they take more pension money.

Better to have people live to 60 than to 90.

The school probably didn't allow it as those decisions are handled by your school board for all schools in your district. You know those people are the ones you elected, right? Perhaps my schools had more common sense. They were in red states.

Because one of the biggest donors to the American government is BIG PHARMA. Big Pharma alchemists needs American's to be sick enough to buy their potions & witch's brews but just well enough to stay alive. They make their billions off of repeat customers.

RFK pretended to be all about health until he sided with Trump and agreed that the chemicals in RoundUp are perfectly A-OK. Just another Trump lackey and sellout.

The Federal government has no legitimate role in healthcare, other than for the Armed Forces and Veterans.

But Democrats long ago cast off the constraints of Article I and the Tenth Amendment, realizing that they can essentially buy votes with "free" government services and stuff. Every vicissitude that life might throw at us can be alleviated or resolved by Government, if only Republicans weren't standing in the way.

So the Feds created agencies to regulate food, drugs, and various human activities, and took it upon itself to advise us what to eat, what to do, and what we should not eat or do.

I don't think many people endanger their health UNWITTINGLY; we do it on purpose, because instant gratification is more satisfying than long-term sacrifice for good health.

Sadly, many of us suffer from horrible diseases, circumstances, and conditions despite "doing everything right." You can eat right, watch your weight, exercise regularly, and avoid harmful stuff, and still suffer and die early.

Fortunately for me, at 76 y.o., it is no longer possible for me to die prematurely. I'm well past my sell-by date.
You've got few years left.

A 76-year-old male in the United States can expect to live, on average, about 10 to 11 more years.

Detailed

For a male who has reached age 76, the average remaining life expectancy is approximately 10.3 to 11 years, meaning the expected age at death would be around 86–87 years. This estimate is based on recent actuarial and CDC life tables, which account for age-specific mortality rates rather than life expectancy at birth. Life expectancy at birth for U.S. males is lower, around 75.8–76.9 years, but adults who survive to older ages generally have a higher remaining life expectancy due to having already survived earlier mortality risks.

I recall Mrs. Obama trying to push a program geared toward making children eat better and exercise more

And I also recall conservatives losing their shit over it
If I recall the program failed because the kids didn't like the food.

Close but no cigar. Healthy foods are cheaper than junk foods. People (and some animals) will go for the junk foods every time as they are formulated to taste so good that you can't resist.

Well for one thing the government is no good at promoting much of anything at all. Figure it out for yourself.

RFKjr knows that trying to convince Americans to eat better is fruitless (no pun intended) so he has to nibble around the edges by addressing chemicals in the food. People don't give a shit about their health. Many think having some disorder, especially mental problems, is a badge of some sort. Having a therapist isn't just a hollywood thing. Many average Americans, including kids, are receiving therapy for mental and emotional issues.

I don't think that's the case. In fact, I am not sure they take a "taste test" approach to determining what is best, I sure hope we don't.
Healthy food can taste good if prepared correctly.
