Irrelevant. The original statement was that the poor were getting shafted and that is incorrect. They are getting an expansion of Medicaid making more poor qualify for free (shitty but that is not a change from before) H/C. Who is getting shafted is the middle class where the ‘subsidy’ is a joke, premiums are rising and co-pays have become rather large. The rich will maintain their plans as they always have – they covered everything anyway and co-pay is irrelevant to the rich.

It is rather sad that the middleclass is taking the hit here – at the moment they don’t really need any more hits.

Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. In 2005, the Bush Administration attempted to get these GSEs to reduce their portfolios. It was claimed they were becoming a systemic risk.

It was quite popular following the crash for the Right to blame the Democrats for obstructing the winding down of those portfolios back then and thus the Democrats were responsible for the GSEs crashing and burning at taxpayer expense.

For the most part, it was the Democrats' fault for Congress not being able to pass the legislation written to accomplish this. It's only a small piece of the overall picture of the causes of the crash, but it holds water.


People who make the argument that a minorty is not able to gum up the works are talking out of their asses. The GOP today are masters of obstruction and deadlock.

That is not a good analogy though as you are pointing to a specific event in Bush’s term and not one in Obama’s. So far, no one here has really pointed to anything that the republicans have done at all. Gumming up things is not something specific that they have done that established they are fucking the poor. The government so called closure is not relevant either because 1. It did not slow any recovery as there was actually good growth over that time frame and 2 the government never really shut down. You can’t claim a shutdown when over 80% of the government was still running. It was a terrible political move and nothing but theater but to claim that it screwed the poor requires more fact.

Usually when this comes up all you really end up with is a bunch of people demanding that they hurt the poor b3ecause they didn’t pass one spending debacle or the other that the dems want. I find that rather dubious.
