Zone1 How to be educated and not indoctrinated

So the point of this thread is "don't go to college"? What about high school? Jr high? Vocational school? Just "educate yourself"?
Intelligence and education aren't the same thing. Most really intelligent people do expand their education if they can, because they see the advantage in it, but a degree doesn't show how smart you are. One of the smartest people I know never got past high school.

The angiogram uses the tracer dye and is the gold standard cardio test. Everyone should get one by age 40.
Bullshit! There are lots of tests that you should take before ever having to undergo an angiogram. I had a whole battery of stress tests, bubble tests, and other diagnostics before they ever considered doing an angiogram.

How many have you had? I have had two and they were one of the most unpleasant procedures I have ever had done. I have five titanium stents in my cardiac arteries thanks to that. Never had an issue since and I have repeated all of the prior diagnostic tests and passed every single one. I haven't seen a cardiologist in over 5 years.

I had my first "heart" issue when I was screened for my transplant and was only revealed by testing which warranted the angiogram. I was 62 and active regularly but had nary a symptom. If they followed your recommendation, I would have had one 22 years earlier, and it would have likely showed nothing.

BTW, the angiogram will damage your kidneys. That is why they did 2 separate procedures on me.

A thin catheter is placed in an artery in your groin or wrist and winds its way to your heart where a dye is released that reveals any narrowing or blockages in your coronary arteries. It's normally done only after you experience symptoms such as angina. It should be done before such symptoms appear. Colonoscopies are done this way, so should angiograms.
Where did you attend medical school?

I recommend this for everyone.

You don't need to go hundreds of thousands of dollars into debt to get educated, only to graduate college and not be able to find a good paying job to feed Left wing trolls who teach all their students that the worst political ideology in human history, which is Marxism, is the best ever.

Just educate yourself.

All the information someone needs is online and in libraries. College and uni is just a place to meet others. I think it was Elon Musk that said that.

Richard Branson is an example of leaving school as soon as you could and becoming successful.

Avoid American public education, Liberal Arts Colleges and opt for home or public schooling.

Could be just because you're an asshole.

You’re projecting again.

Yes let’s base our life choices on those made by the born wealthy genius who made all of his money from government programs. That’ll work for the masses too.

None of which will help you get that job you want. Without a degree, your resume gets tossed by HR.

Unless you have the smarts, connections and money to kick start your life, a degree will get you a chance at a better life.

Ok, base it on Richard Branson.

Get a job? Go self employed.

No, I think it's because you're an asshole. And I rarely agree with Unk on anything.

"I returned, and saw under the sun, that the race is not to the swift, nor the battle to the strong, neither yet bread to the wise, nor yet riches to men of understanding, nor yet favour to men of skill; but time and chance happeneth to them all." Ecclesiastes 9:11

There are no guarantees. All you can do is make the best with the opportunities you do have. It would be nice if we had public policies that were more about creating opportunities and less about mandating people do or don't do things in exchange for a sliver of a chance to even break even.

My kids, upon graduating, had zero options other than a degree that would benefit them. There were NO other paths. I wanted them to have to avoid starting out at $12 per hour for some loser boss and most bosses are bad people.

Metusaleh chimes in with his regular dose of antiquated musings.

The worst thing Obama did was to have the federal government take over student loans... it quadrupled tuition fees and since our public schools failed to educate the kids... Universities created worthless majors so the stupid kids could get in and go into debt so deep it takes decades to repay their loans as they flip burgers for a living... who wins?... the universities.... and democrat politicians who get donations from them...

Very true. College doesn't make anyone smarter, raise their IQ, it just makes them more trained/informed in their specific field. More to the point: most people go to college not to get smarter, or even more educated, but because it is /REQUIRED/ of them to get a job in the field of their choice.

And for most people, college is mostly about reading books, listening to lectures and taking tests.

You can stay home and read all the books you want and listen to all of the lectures you want. Actually, Charlie just proved to me that he was even smarter and more educated than I thought he was.
