How much would you spend?

Yeah...you should have paid 1000 in tax too, because you are rich!!!!!

Good meal, I bet., and I would be willing to bet you did not have Merlot or White Zin.

But the arrogance part....
True. However, see, I view the attitude as part of atmosphere. If the people at a place are too "snooty", I don't want to eat there as that is not the kind of "atmosphere" I prefer...

In Vegas just about every place I have been, the people have not been arrogant. A matter-of-fact, if you're too snooty, many of the places here don't want you coming....

Although there are many, many fine restaurants in Las Vegas, my favorites, in no particular order - after the House of Blues, are as follows:

House of Blues Foundation Room
The absolute favorite of both my wife and me. It is located at the top of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino. Average price, $60 per person without wine. Excellent food and the views of "The Strip" are awesome.

The Head Matre'd is Luigi. It is a private club, so if you wanna eat there, tell him Tom sent ya! :)

Charlie Palmer Steak in the Four Seasons Hotel
The steaks are great and a great celebrity spot'n place if you're into that.

Average Price, $60 - 75 without wine.

Le Cirque in The Bellagio
One of the most intimate and beautiful restaurants in town. The average price is about $90 per person without wine. The food is excellent and if you like escargot, they have the best in town.

Picasso's gets most of the attention in The Bellagio, as it should, it is beautiful and expensive, but in my opinion, Le Cirque is a much more pleasurable total dining experience. Picasso’s can be much like one of those haughty places we were talking about....

Ask for "Freddie". He is a great guy and an excellent Sommelier.

Aureole in Mandalay Bay
Nice dining experience and the food is good. For $90 per person (prix fixe), you can get a table in the "Swan Dining Room". The dining room has large glass doors and windows overlooking a nice pond with white swans. You can step out on the portico between courses to smoke (whatever you have with ya! ;) ) or just enjoy watching the swans swim around. My wife says their Cosmos are probably the best in town but she admits it is a toss-up between theirs and those at the "Piano Bar" in The Bellagio....

Dre's in the Barbary Coast
Dre's is located in the basement of the Barbary Coast. It is probably the most interesting restaurant in town. Dre's is an extremely fine dining restaurant by evening and it turns into one of the hottest late night "after hours" nightclubs in town once dinner is over. Quite an interesting place!

Average price is about $80 per person and they have the best frog-legs around.

Andre Rochat is the owner and quite the character.

Hyakumi in Caesar's Palace
The best sushi in Vegas (well, until I find out where Yuki Sano moved). Hiroji is the head sushi chef and a very good one at that! Hyakumi uses only the freshest fish flown in each afternoon from the LA fish-market. The average price without sake is, well, if you like sushi as my wife and I do, about $100 per person.

Piero's - 355 Convention Center Drive
The place to see the "who's who" of Las Vegas' seedier side....

Actually, Piero's is the best Italian food in Las Vegas; especially their Osso Bucco. Frankly, unless you sit in the VIP room in the back, the experience is not very great. It usually is crowded in the front during conventions, but when no conventions are in town, the place can be dead (except, again, the VIP section in the back) and the service horrible. However, if you can get a table in the back (this is Vegas, $100 bucks will get ya in), the experience is interesting and the food and wine are awesome.

Average price is about $50 per person.

Fiore's Steakhouse and Cigar Lounge in the Rio Hotel and Casino
Not as nice as it used to be, but if you are entertaining, it is a great place to go for a decent price. If you have a large group (10 - 12) the "Owner's Room" is a nice place to have dinner as long as you spend a minimum of 1,000 bucks.

Steve is a great waiter and whom I would recommend. When you call for reservations ask for "Big" Steve.

Average price is about $50 per person. Oh, and if you go, you've gotta have one of their soufflés for desert!

Alize at the Palms Hotel and Casino
Also owned by Andre Rochat, Alize is an excellent French cuisine restaurant with a nice wine list! The average price is around $75 per person without wine.

Ask for Steve Bouchette and Brian to be your wait team.

Rosemary's - 8125 West Sahara Avenue
Nice intimate restaurant way off the strip (near where us normal folk live! :tng: ). Average price is $80 per person without wine.

I heard their restaurant in the Rio failed. I guess it is hard to duplicate what you have when your success is almost solely dependent upon you! The owners are a husband and wife chef team and both were trained as professional chefs.
There are many more, and even some of my favorites, which I am sure I have missed. I have eaten at so many I cannot name them all. Nevertheless, from a regular attendance standpoint, the above are my favorites.

I also have to give the Las Vegas Country Club. It is THE place to have lunch during the week and is open for members on Friday nights for fine dining. The food is excellent.

Average price: $250 per person (considering my wife and I pay our dues but only eat there about once a month...)

As far as "anybody can make at home some of the best meals you can have outside" not really..some can't boil water.
Of course, I should have been clearer. For years my wife made me "Doshirak" noodles for me for lunch every day cuz that was about all she could cook!

She has improved tremendously and now is quite the cook!

No problem!

Ruth's Chris Steak House is the most expensive place I've ever been to. I managed to feed the wife and me for $140, after tax and tip. But that is the best steak I've had anywhere, hands down.

And those sides of potatos augratin, along with the sizzling dishes of steak that stays sizzling through the entire meal. YUM!

Okay - now you two sound like a Sean Hannity commercial! :p

Seriously Jeff - if you like Ruth's Chris, you should try Daniels Broiler (One in Bellevue and one in Seattle) - or El Guacho Steak House (One in Tacoma and one in Seattle)...

Either of those; namely the latter, should have no problems beating the steaks at Ruth's Chris...

Sounds like we should plan a USMB - All Meat Get together... :)

El Gouge-o? I'd have a hard time justifying the price; Ruth's Chris was a special event for Angela and I, which justified a nice dinner.

For steak, I prefer Smith and Wollensky....Chicago (NYC location is good, but not like Chicago)
We have a Smith and Wollensky's here in Vegas but I didn't much care for it. Again, duplicating the original is always difficult.

I loved Jake's Famous Crawfish when I lived in Portland and the McCormick and Schmick's in Beaverton, but the McCormick and Schmick's here in Vegas I don't care for all that much. Flemming's has a pretty good steak, but I don't much care for restaurants like Morton's, Ruth Chris, etc. that are a la carte unless you have a big group. Otherwise, you end up with way too much food!

JMHO.

Jakes! Hell yes! Great food and one hell of a lemon drop drink. There is a place in Portland also called Obas, great tapas.

It's funny that you mentioned that. I'm going to be there for dinner on Friday.

Is it any good?

Actually, the food and service both are pretty good. You won't be disappointed I'm sure. They have probably the most extensive wine list in Vegas. The wine list is actually a tablet PC that you use to browse through their vast selection.

I'm sure you will enjoy it. If you can, try to get up to the House of Blues Foundation Room after dinner. It is a private club, but if you want to IM me, I can get you in touch with Luigi and I am fairly confident he would let you in. If so, I would just suggest you slip him $40 - $60 bucks. If you want a private room in the HOB Foundation Room, you might need to slip him $100.
