Trump has kinda redefined "lying" in a political campaign.

"Lying" usually means something like "saying something you know is not true". Since he's just making shit up as he goes, since he communicates almost exclusively in goofy hyperbole, one could argue that he's really not saying stuff he knows isn't true, because he may not have any knowledge of what he's saying in the first place.

So there actually is a distinction, if you parse it a bit.
