but if Charles Evans Hughes had won in 1916 many of the present problems we have now may have been avoided. Wilson was poor President, got elected in 1912 due to the GOP split. Hughes should have won but blew it in California. Hughes I believe could have been the GOP nominee in 1920 had he not lost a child in 1919 and chose not to run Teddy Roosevelt was going to run but died in 1919. We got stuck with Harding.
 
Wilson set us down the path to our bloated govt nanny state that far exceeds the strict limitations our Constitution imposed.
We might not be in the slow train wreck mode we are now if he hadn't lucked into the nomination through a party split.
He was an academic blowhard who brought about the forerunner to our present authoritarian state demanding compliance to the "experts" no matter how insane

wilson was the biggest racist ever.....thankfully karma caused a massive debilitating mess of a stroke and he lived in severe misery.....good on that

Harding gave us Mellon and Coolidge and the only period where the purchasing power of the dollar actually increased or held fast
