Here We Go: Teacher Shortages 22-23

Why would ANYONE insult EDUCATION MAJORS
Since I taught middle and high school, I don't recall any of my fellow teachers with education majors. I have an undergraduate degree in math, with minors in math and about 5 other subjects. I received my BA degree in 1984. I took education classes and got my full teacher certifications in math and social studies in 1996, and a Master's in educational leadership in 2003.

My thanks to your daughter for her service.

Radios designed to operate on planes are called airborne radios. The guy I mentioned was an aircraft radio repairman.

That's not what they are called in the Navy. My Dad was an Aviation Electronic Technician. I was a AN/URT-23 technician which are found on submarines, ships, and aircraft!. We always called them "radios". I guess the Chair Force is a little different! :abgg2q.jpg:

In fact, when I was on a midshipman cruise in college, I helped the Radiomen repair that same radio on our ballistic missile submarine.

You are NOT reading my posts. That is a simple fact is because you have never been a classroom teacher, your opinions are without merit. My 21 years trumps your zero years every time. My Master's in Educational Leadership and I spent many year as team leader and assistant principal/principal meaning I am very familiar with other core content subjects. Sorry, but you are unqualified to opine.

Opinion noted.

If enough teachers quit maybe the system will get the message and do something about it.
Why should they? It takes a good 5-6 years to educate and replace a teacher who leaves. When I left, I had 21 years experience, a Master's degree, certification to teach two subject areas, and was a certified administrator. How did they replace me at one of my jobs? They hired a teacher straight out of college, with no certification. She lasted one year.

Experience is not valued in our profession. Age is a negative, especially in elementary. They would rather have a 23 yo who knows essentially nothing than a 25 year veteran who has been around every block and back again. We do this over and over and over, and I never know why. I hate to say it because I don't look for this easily, and it's not my go-to, but I think a good portion of it is due to the fact that many women populate the field.

The whole social order is breaking down. The educational system has to address this as it is happening within their own walls as well.

I'm guessing that young, female teachers probably lack the disciplinary skills needed to maintain order.

That’s the same with every profession. When I left after 35 years of experience, they replaced me with a kid. They noted to me that they knew the replacement would be “OK” - and not excellent as I was - but they said they didn’t want to pay for ”excellent” and OK was good enough.

It‘s just the nature of the drop in caliber of our country. They are satisfied with “good enough” and don’t value “excellent.”

your extreme liberal positions on politics make me cast doubt on that grasp.
I don't think my political views are extreme.
Yes, I despise pos trump.
He is a life long con man. This is proven.....trump is a con man.

You might support him and think his policies are awesome for ALL Americans.
I disagree. Trump is about trump.

I am truly sorry. because that just tells me you are lying again. I guess you have no self-respect.
Why would I lie? You are sounding like a leftist - calling liar, and going in with a personal insult - when you can’t argue a point. News flash: teachers do NOT put in more time than corporate managers - not by a long shot.

You are being way too defensive. Understandable for a profession with 13 weeks of vacation a year who is crying about how much more time they put in than other professions.

You refuse to provide evidence of your claims, so I must assume you are lying. Why is that so hard to figure out?

Did it ever dawn on you yet that that 13 weeks off is UNPAID, and includes mandatory UNPAID training?

UNPAID is semantics. You can’t bitch about being underpaid when you only work 10 months of the year. That would be like if I had a job that went from 8 to noon, and then I complained I’m not being paid for the mornings when I don’t work.

And this training doesn’t run from 8 am to 6 pm throughout the summer.

Find someone gullible to fall for your cries of how much more teachers work than everyone else.

This is one of the biggest reasons teachers cite for leaving. Student behavior very near the top, with no parental or admin back up when bad behavior occurs.

I am very petite and have been physically attacked at school so many times that my husband is done with it completely. I have been hit, bitten, pushed, had things thrown at me and bruised. On this board, the answer I get to that is, "What you can't take this stuff from LITTLE KIDS?!?!"

These *little kids* often outweigh me by thirty pounds or more, and are inches taller. I'm left with them, kids who need support and are known to be violent, with no aides or paras because we don't have them.

We are told when we are attacked that it's "Part of the job". Some of us are so done we're ready to just call the police when it happens. One of my coworkers got punched in the face by a student. The admin asked her "What did you do to provoke him?"

Not making this up.
:boo_hoo14:

Here's how stupid my profession can be.

The latest is "trauma-informed teaching" right? So the idea is, all these kids behave this way because they've been traumatized.

Me: "Okay. But then why is it okay for these traumatized kids to come to school and be VIOLENT in the classroom? You realize if children witnessed this level of violence in their homes, CPS would remove them. It would be domestic violence; it would be considered traumatizing. But we allow traumatized children in school to traumatize OTHER children because....trauma."

I have typed this, said this, to admin. Want to know what I get in response?

Crickets. It's like no one ever thinks of this, and no one has a solution except to bark back, "TRAUMA!". Oh yeah, and I'm mean because I'm thinking of the OTHER kids and not the kid kicking, hitting, biting and throwing things.

That's the mess we're in. But I'm not supposed to talk about it, because talking about it makes me a Bad Teacher.
