I watched President Trump's appearance at the Capital One Arena and his later signing of Executive Orders and impromptu press conference in the Oval Office. My sense of the start of his administration is that he is doing some really good things but I am concerned with his overall strategy about things that it isn't optimal. I think it was great that he signed a bunch of Executive Orders to solve the Border problem this is a Mount McKinley problem for America. If I was advising on the administration's approach to the border and illegal immigration problem I would say understand the history of the problem America could have done Comprehensive Immigration Reform seventeen years ago in the George W. Bush administration but many members of Congress don't believe that if they legalize people in the country illegally the illegal immigration problem will be solved. I say this because the Trump administration could solve this problem and during the next four years lay the groundwork for the country to completely solve this problem within the decade! What President Trump needs to do is get a bi-partisan bill through that will give him the tools to seal the border, now if I would have to handicap the likelihood of such a bill passing I would have to say way less than fifty percent solely because of politics but if I were just to focus on both parties interests I would say it is definitely achievable. The border problem at its core is the asylum problem America's illegal migrants are essentially economic migrants looking for a better life and they use America's asylum law as a shield to get into the U.S. and stay here. So you take the Chris Murphy/James Lankford bipartisan border bill from the last Congress which was great on narrowing the definition of eligible asylum and empowered border deliberations on the issue and otherwise increased processing of asylum claims and you load the bill with goodies to get more votes from both parties to get Republicans on board you add provisions to complete the wall and surveillance needs and you increase the governments deportation capacity and to get Democrats on board you give green cards with the right to apply for citizenship to the 1.5 million people with DACA status (people that came to America illegally when they children) and you agree not to deport any one that has been in the country over eight years as long as they haven't committed a felony and as long as they are working or going to school if they are between the age of 21 and 55 unless they have health problems or they are parent of a child under eighteen or a disabled child and you agree not to deport any illegal even under eight years working in the agricultural, farming or meat processing industry.
I think President Trump did a great thing signing an executive order pardoning the over a thousand January 6 protestors sent to jail for illegally entering the Capitol on that day in 2021; the proximate cause of this whole debacle is that the Democrat House leader Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat Senate leader Chuck Schumer did not do their jobs and make a responsible effort to see that there was adequate security to protect the Capitol that day when the Congress would be certifying the electoral college count, when it was common knowledge that President Trump had a huge number of supporters that thought the election was stolen from Donald Trump and would be at the Capitol at the time of the Electoral College vote count! If there was one thing that I would strongly advise President Trump to do over the next four years that was gleaned from watching his impromptu Press Conference is to be message disciplined try to avoid unprepared conversations with the press, many issues that you will be asked about are too complex they call for very careful diplomatic answers you are going to spend a lot of time in regret if you don't heed that practice.
President Trump making a big mistake pursuing taking fifty percent of TiKTok, I hope with all my heart this business can be saved because it provides significant income to thousands of ordinary People. But have an appreciation of what is good man the Chinese government is and likely more so is using it as a tool to hurt America, they use it as a tool to spread propaganda downgrading and disguising bad things China does and corrupting our children and it is a tool for China to get leverage on Americans and control them, etc.. President Trump respect America's laws the Congress doesn't give the President real power here, America will look the other way for ninety days, try to get Byte Dance to sell it to an American citizen or company if not follow the law and shut it down; Remember this you can guarantee an American company will rise to take its place it may take a little time but there is a guaranteed great business opportunity with the Tik Tok business so it will be filled. President Trump don't force a change to the individual tax code excluding tip income that is extremely corrosive to America there is no reason why a person working hard has to pay taxes on non-tip income and another person getting the same income from tips then gets a pass on paying taxes, it is completely unfair and it will lead to gamesmanship where people will be cheating on their taxes by manipulating things so they can claim income is tip income when it really isn't. I know you kind of got yourself caught with your campaign comments but this is good play on the issue change the code so that the IRS is not permitted to question, assess or criminally prosecute an individual taxpayer if their reported taxable tip income is at least seventy-five percent of what the IRS thinks it is for a whole slew of workers who get cash tips which vary day by day and create a real headache for record keeping like waiters and waitresses, bus boys, casino workers, taxi drivers, caddies.
President Trump don't do the across the board twenty-five percent tariffs on Canada, Mexico and other tariff maneuver against entities like the European Union because a lot of innocent ordinary people will be hurt. The New York Times had an article yesterday about a whole lot of auto workers in Windsor Ontario right across from Detroit who are going to be hurt by this tariff action. Prudence calls for heeding the Golden Rule what goes around comes around if you hurt all these ordinary people's families in these target countries with tariff policies that are not fully good and remember the Trump administration will have plenty of opportunities to be hurt this Tax Extension Reconciliation bill for the 2017 tax changes where you got to find three to four trillion dollars of government spending cuts and not make a mass of ordinary Americans extremely mad with the outcome where they throw the Republicans out of control of the House come the midterm will be an epic quintessential thread the needle challenge! President Trump the better approach on trade is to keep in mind today America doesn't have the workforce to do a snap the finger switch and bring back America's manufacturing economy we have lost it over fifty years with the masters of the universe in Washington forcing the globalization model on America. Bringing back manufacturing needs to be done slowly and most importantly with definiteness and stability so Americans will make careers in those professions and businesses and investors will invest capital to that end. During President Trump first term he had a good policy where if a U.S. manufacturers offshored manufacturing a product to just increase their profits a thirty-five percent tariff would be slapped on that import for five years; reinstitute that policy the Trump administration should. Also, over the last four years it was reported in major newspapers and there is probably a lot more legitimately needy U.S. companies and industries not reported where they need help from unfairly low priced foreign competition; example there was an antibiotic manufacturer in New Jersey impose tariffs on that company from India that is killing that U.S. manufacturer as a matter of fact bring back U.S. pharmaceutical manufacturing with tariffs if need be give the U.S. domestic industry time to prepare and implement the tariffs in the beginning of 2026; another hurting industry is the American mattress manufacturing industry they have been getting killed over the last four years tariff mattress imports to give our nation's industry the ability to be strong and healthy. For the European Union trade imbalance be careful a lot of those European Countries are very fragile America doesn't want to see the European Union fail maybe just for economically strong European Union Countries where there is a big trade imbalance target their export products that are tough competitors for U.S. manufacturers. A plan to get European Union countries to close the trade gap by buying U.S. oil is not optimally prudent, one this is achieved by playing hardball against these countries threatening a trade war consecutive U.S. Presidential administration will likely not be prepared to travel that route cause American's get hurt in these trade wars, secondly U.S. producers are going to on a dime dramatically increase U.S. oil production I don't think so they know Saudi Arabia is out there and they are very clever about protecting their market share U.S. producers start getting too greedy and Saudi Arabia can drive down the price of a barrel of oil and cause great pain to the U.S. producers and let us say the Trump administration strikes a deal for the EU to buy a $150 billion dollars of oil from U.S. producers per year that is $150 billion dollars of oil taken from U.S. stocks slated for U.S. consumers oil is priced on the supply/demand curve since supply will be lower the price will rise that is the price for the U.S. consumer, is that what the Trump administration wants. What America should be doing to create the country's needed level of good middle class jobs is designating manufacturing industries whose products sell at the price that can support such wages if need be to protect them from foreign competition and/or to bring back the respective domestic manufacturing industry to at least sixty percent of the industry Is designate that industry as vital and tariff appropriately imports to protect the respective domestic industry's market share!
President Trump should consider one other point really being a leader means you often don't compare what your putting in to everyone else you do more than your obligated share because you want to see the good thing prevail. With the World Health Organization if China doesn't want to do its rightful share forget about it America should do the right thing we're the richest country in the world giving $500 million dollars/year so hundreds of millions of poor people can have basic health care that is the right thing to do don't be bothered by what China does. In NATO a lot of those countries leaders cannot politically steer five percent of their GDP or whatever the standard is to defense it is not politically possible these countries are good countries they have supported us internationally countless times don't bring this too a head America and the World's long-term interests will just end up being hurt!
