Has Fear Porn Inserted Its Way Into Your Mind?

Has the media and the Gov't pushed Fear Porn for the last 2 years?

You are talking about putting you head in the sand and not watch any news.

Watching news is the absolute worst way to get informed. They control what stories you hear, they control how you feel about the stories with the emotions they express and even their appearance.

The only time I ever turn on TV news is for coverage of a live event

Reading is a far better way to become informed.

You make good suggestions.

The only thing I would add is that the media is just doing the bidding of the government. Two main methods of controlling the populous are fear and division.

For decades now there has always been a Boogieman that the Govt told us we need to fear. The Red Scare of the 40s and the 50s was really the start of it.
GG: EXCELENT post!

If you have a head on your shoulders and are listening with a grain of salt, you can take in news just fine and think for yourself.

And what makes you think reading is different??

I watch the weather, something that actually affects my life.
Weather is not the only thing that effects your life in this world, you just choose to put your head on the sand about the rest.

You are an idiot if you think weather is the only thing that effects your life in this world.
Dumbass.
You are free to live with as much fear as you wish. Just don't expect the rest of us to ride that wagon into oblivion.
Now go tune in Maddow and get your daily dose of hyperbole.

Three main things make reading better...

1, I get to choose what I read, unlike the TV which picks the stories for you.
2. I am not influenced by the emotions and even the inflections of those "reporting" the news.
3. I can read about the same topic from multiple points of view in the time you listen to someone tell you what they think

Again, what fear?

I keep asking and you keep on not being able to say.

A weak mind can be manipulated by reading or watching. It's not the source that's the problem, it's the individual that accepts anything they hear.

I watch Laura, Hannity and Tucker every night. When they report on something of interest to me, I look it up. Yes, they express their opinions, but it's opinions why all of us come here to USMB. Nobody's opinion is Gospel, but you want to read what other people think about a story or subject.

Covid, russians ,Trump, white supremacists, proud boys, insurrection, rebel flags, homophobia, gender misidentification, MAGA...
just to start.
Fuck the MSM and Fuck you.

You forgot about Muslims, gay people, CRT, election theft, China, Iran, transsexuals....just to start.

Both side live by fear

I do like to read people's takes on things on this forum. Things are said that they would never say in person or in public.

Lol, yes it is ratings that decides what is on the news Evidently American s want to be afraid, they lap up as much as they can get.

Fear is a wonderful feeling for a lot of people. Think of the folks that watch those mass murder movies during the Halloween season. They go to haunted houses for people to scare the hell out of them. They go to amusement parks and ride in carts that take you over 100 feet in the air and nearly drop you straight down to the ground. Fear is a thrill.

If you have not heard of the term "fear porn", it refers to mainstream media content that deliberately and enticingly plays on people's fears about disaster, disease, and death. Yes, there are media outlets that go beyond informing and alerting the public. Media is necessary and important to inform the public and to educate. However, at what point does informing turn into aggressively alarming people? Certain media is “intentionally” trying to panic the public. In a way, they are violating

Here are some ways to help correct or prevent mental health consequences from the “fear porn” industry:

  1. Limit or get rid of your media intake. This includes social media, which is filled with plenty of strangers and “friends” trying to persuade and terrorize you.
  2. Once you have limited media, use that time to go outside in the sun and walk or run. Exercise can help reduce your stress levels. Also, responsible sun exposure has been proven to help with some psychological conditions.
  3. Refuse to get into conversations with anyone regarding what they saw or heard that was terrifying on the news. Simply explain to everyone that you will be using your own judgment to “protect” yourself as opposed to all the unknown reporters in the world.
  4. Definitely get help immediately if you are unable to function socially or occupationally. Programs are available and are useful when trying to desensitize yourself, to have a quality of life.
One thing I find interesting. . .

Conservative talk radio seems to focus more on Covid than NPR, and Hannity in particular seems obsessed with the topic.

I don't know if this is because the folks on the left have more probability of being jabbed, and the establishment and corporations have the need to propagandize conservatives with the messaging, while the left feels the need to focus on other messaging?

I tend to monitor all media, so, this is just an observation.

I took a complete break from all news for a week and an half, it was weird. I didn't read or hear a word of fear porn in my life at all. When I turned on the radio and logged in . . . it was like. . .

Hanity is a salesman for the monoclonal antibodies. And getting vaccinated. When the topic of the cheap drugs come up from call ins he shifts the topic away from them as fast as he can.

While he preaches the right to try... He is definitly pushing the higher dollar treatments.

Monoclonal have had good success. But you can see the avoidance of Ivermectin .

Those things you describe are thrills the news is just sickening. Ya, I have jumped out perfectly good airplane s. Been on rice burner at rates of speed. Been upside down in airplane s. I get but not the same thing news gives you.. I used to like those haunted house s. Walk in with one girl walk out with five clinging to ya, lol. I have done alot of para sailing. Got my first sail before. First boat. The boat followed soon after. The feeling news gives ya is different.
