no Ravi I asked a question and stated what I have been told by 3 separate individuals in the last 6 months. The 3rd one being a fairly high ranking officer who was asked if he would be willing to order his troops to fire on US citizens in the need arose. I sked the question had anyone else hear this or was there anyone currently serving who had come across it.

No Ravi, I posted a question and asked for the experiences of others. You are the one who is bringing some type of agenda into this.

How seriously should one take this warning that the military is being purged of those who won't agree to fire on U.S. citizens? Consider that:

The only supporting evidence for this claim is a second-hand account from an anonymous source.

Not a single reputable news outlet has reported any such story.

Not a single member of the U.S. government or the U.S. military has come forward to confirm the claim.

The claim fits a common model of conspiracy theory which has been repeatedly espoused many times over (but has never proved true).

The person spreading this warning is promulgating other discredited conspiracy theories, such as the claim that Adam Lanza did not use a version of an AR-15 rifle in the Sandy Hook shootings. (See this article for a debunking of that rumor.)

My son and i talked about this a few months ago. He's 10 yrs in the Army, now with Spec. Ops....he said it'll never happen. Not the way Obama would want it to. Ya, you'll get some of the military to go along with it, but not enough. He believes the majority would be fighting FOR the US citizens and against the govt, no matter what our govt told them to do. I'll have to ask him if he's ever been asked that question....

Thanks caroljo. That is exactly what these guys have been telling me to. at least not for the reasons they perceive the direction will come down. I just find it interesting that they are being asked this question and to afirm their stance at this point.

Actually, we just happened to start talking about this scenario for some reason, not because we'd ever heard anything. So i'm not affirming anything. Besides, i've already posted what his answer was to this, and it's not what others are saying.

In the last 6 months i've heard from 3 people in the military who were reupping that officers are being asked if they would fire on US citizens if a situation arose that called for it. The first two I heard it from were younger and reupping for the first time. But I guy i just heard it from is career and said it was the first time he'd ever been asked it and was really concerned about it.

I'm wondering if anyone else here who has been in the military knows if this is standard or a new thing, or if anyone else has heard the same?

Some writer comes up with this claptrap based on an annonymous source and the far right runs with it. After the whole birther and secret Muslim theories, this is hardly surprising.

And while countless people with experience in this are, such as myself, can tell you this is utter nonsense, you won't believe us because you WANT to believe this crap is true.

Come on KG...you know that being a Nobel Prize nominee means nothing....Obama got one! Lol!

Of course my son isn't an upper rank person in the Army, but he is in Special Ops and he's at one of the biggest bases in the US. He doesn't like Obama any more than i do, (most of the people he works with doesn't either!) and he said this is all crap and i tend to believe him before anyone else. Obama has a LOT of stuff wrong with him, and i really wouldn't put it past him, but i can't back something that i know for a fact is not true.
