I would say that geographical reasons formed various intentions. The Spaniards in their colonies might not have a goal to genocide 90% of the Native population due to geographical reasons - mountains, forests, arid soil etc that comprised the most part of their colonies. So, it was more than enough for them to push 'the savages' to bad areas and get along with that. While the fertile soil and almost perfect climate for agriculture in what now is the US were 'worthy' of genocide.
