Hanger Tails(Tales) ~ Flying/Aviation

The Miramar air Show was this weekend. I went Friday. Damn good show. Speaking of B-29's, this one (Doc) was there on static display. It had just flown in from Utah.

It costs $10K an hour to fly this old bird. I like how they lined up all the props. 👍

Not many WWII planes in the show any more. The heritage flight was an F-22 Raptor and a P-51A. That's the older Mustang with an Allison engine....Interesting!
The line up makes it easier to start turning them over to get oil in all the cylinders before firing off the engines in start up.

White diagonal stripes mark it as part of "1st Air Commando" operating in CBI = China Burma India Theater.
Yup. I knew one of their commanders.

The Bardahl Special showed up today. Will be doing display flying at the Airshow Saturday and Sunday

Just found out, last minute, that Commemorative Air Force (CAF) B-29 is in Seattle this weekend.
Text and photos from my brother who lives just south of Seattle and caught it flying overhead of his home.
Our father worked on building these during World War II when he was rejected for physical reasons from the Navy.
Looks like I'll be doing a quick trip down that way to see it.

I mkay have posted this earlier, but worth a repeat anyway. From about five years ago, but insight to a time when commercial air travel was different, and better in ways.

15th post
I'm not a real pilot but I do enjoy My flight simulators. I have a fondness for Biz jets but those are limited today to just the Longitude, CJ4, C510 Mustang, HondaJet.

When I fly in the sim in GA aircraft -- yes, I know biz jets are considred GA -- I really enjoy flying the King Air 350i.

Anyway, Stryder50 , I'll post this here per your suggestion.

After every flight, UPS pilots fill out a form, called a "gripe sheet" which tells mechanics about problems with the aircraft. The mechanics correct the problems, document their repairs on the form, then pilots review the gripe sheets before the next flight.
Never let it be said that ground crews lack a sense of humor. Here are actual maintenance complaints submitted by UPS pilots ("P") and solutions recorded
("S") by maintenance engineers:

P: Left inside main tire almost needs replacement.
S: Almost replaced left inside main tire.
P: Test flight OK, except auto-land very rough.
S: Auto-land not installed on this aircraft.
P: Something loose in cockpit
S: Something tightened in cockpit
P: Dead bugs on windshield.
S: Live bugs on back-order.
P: Autopilot in altitude-hold mode produces a 200 feet per minute descent
S: Cannot reproduce problem on ground.
P: Evidence of leak on right main landing gear.
S: Evidence removed.
P: DME volume unbelievably loud.
S: DME volume set to more believable level.
P: Friction locks cause throttle levers to stick.
S: That's what friction locks are for.
P: IFF inoperative in OFF mode.
S: IFF always inoperative in OFF mode.
P: Suspected crack in windshield.
S: Suspect you're right.
P: Number 3 engine missing.
S: Engine found on right wing after brief search.
P: Aircraft handles funny.
S: Aircraft warned to: straighten up, fly right, and be serious.
P: Target radar hums.
S: Reprogrammed target radar with lyrics.
P: Mouse in cockpit.
S: Cat installed.
P: Noise coming from under instrument panel. Sounds like a midget pounding on something with a hammer.
S: Took hammer away from midget.

And the shape of things to come. An aircraft that set a new standard and started an Age, the B-29.
