Star Trek: Star Fleet Academy premiere

Kirk.......GAG.

Shatner was horrible, but I tolerated him for the sake of watching Nimoy, who is AWESOME.

Although I like Chris Pine, I cannot get used to him as Kirk. Shatner completely RUINED that character.

none of them are in the tv series coming up....

Star Trek : Star Fleet Academy premiered on Paramount + this week. There was another thread discussing various aspects back in September, but now we can see the finished product. They showed two episodes in the debut.

I am looking for other Trekkie opinions on it. I quickly realized it is in the post Voyager timeline because of the EMH (doctor) character there but also post Discovery's timeline and jump forward in time because Jett Reno is an instructor there. My lack of knowledge of some of Discovery may have been relevant because I quite Discovery after the season where they leaped into the future.

Personally, I was not impressed by any of the new characters. To me the Captain/Chancellor's character being played by a well-known actress, Holly Hunter, left me a little flat. She does not have the gravitas required to pull off the role. She wears glasses, reads old-fashioned books, puts her feet up in the captain's chair, and walks around barefoot, despite being 422 years old. She comes across as a rebirth of a 1970s hippie chick!

The other characters were not particularly impressive either. The characters come off as a woke version of the UN-type of diversity of the with blacks, whites, Asians, aliens and later including a Russian crewmember. There are aliens, including the captain, a hybrid alien female number one, and multiple combinations of alien students many hybrids of two species. There are obviously gay characters as well as fat, ugly, Klingons, and a particularly hot Betazoid in the show. There is even another character that is a species that appears as a hologram that is only weeks into its existence but appears as a young adult. The villain is an alien with a history with captain and one of the cadets Caleb Mir. What I found odd is that none of the bridge crew which made up most of the other series, are left as an afterthought in these two episodes as the cadet's do all the heavy lifting.

The ship also serves as the building for Star Fleet Academy's headquarters by landing in San Francisco. The ship was not impressive as the warp nacelles are detachable and the ship's interior reminds me very much of the cruise ship I was on in November in the Caribbean. They have announcements like a high school and they even have coffee bars it appears.

I would be interested in hearing others' opinions on the series. I am going to continue watching it to see if I can find any appeal. You may feel free to check my facts and opinions at will.

The wokesters have destroyed few things more thoroughly than the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises.

The point is........Shatner killed the Kirk character for me.
I just wanna ***** slap him with a sledgehammer.

Geez.
/----/ I'm the moron? Your post is not an oxymoron. Let me school you.

What is an Oxymoron?

The word ‘oxymoron’ itself comes from the Greek words ‘oxys’ meaning sharp, and ‘moros’ meaning dull. Essentially, an oxymoron is a figure of speech that combines two contradictory terms. It’s a compact paradox, a statement that appears self-contradictory but contains a deeper truth. It’s not just about using opposing words; it’s about creating a new, complex meaning from their combination.

Simple Oxymoron Examples

Let’s start with some easy-to-understand examples. These will help illustrate the basic idea:
  • Jumbo shrimp: Shrimp are typically small, so “jumbo” creates a contradiction.
  • Pretty ugly: Beauty and ugliness are opposites, yet this phrase captures a peculiar aesthetic.
  • Living dead: Life and death are mutually exclusive, making this a classic oxymoron.
  • Open secret: Secrets are meant to be hidden; being “open” negates that.
  • Deafening silence: Silence, by definition, lacks sound, while “deafening” implies a powerful sound.

You most likely love woke/dei. Shatner was asked about the character. He answered he is playing in a sci fi series wearing these funny looking uniforms. And he has to sell it. This is the 1960's.

It has bombed as another woke left wing Hollywood propaganda. They killed the Marvel and Star Wars franchise now Star Trek
Agreed. I had high hopes, the character traits they set up for Holly Hunter are just ridiculous to buy into. She’s a major Starfleet captain/chancellor but acts like a flipping hippie. Klingon student character is silly. I can’t think of one character on there that really draws you in as being able to carry the show. The entire thing is completely dysfunctional.
