Looks like Hamas still wants to destroy Israel.

Hamas: Do Not Believe Abbas; We Want Jihad

Abbas's words might sound heart-warming to Westerners, but they must bear in mind that he is not a Hamas spokesman. Above all, the world needs to pay attention to what Hamas itself is saying.

Abbas knows that Hamas has not changed and will not change. Abbas is seeking to avoid a suspension of U.S. and European financial aid and potential Israeli economic sanctions. Abbas is now waiting to see if the Americans, Europeans and Israelis will buy his claim that the unity government will recognize Israel and reject violence. If they do, he will take credit for ensuring continued financial aid not only to the Palestinian Authority, but also to Hamas. If they do not, Abbas will be forced temporarily to suspend the deal with Hamas to avoid losing the aid.

So the agreement isn't worth the paper it is written on and the photo-op with Abbas and Hamas was that and that only ... a photo-op.
Who would have thought that Palestinian leadership could be so full of camel crap?

Israel does not reject violence or land grabs, so Hamas being the classic antizionist group is logically correct in their actions and viewpoints.

Niether does all of islam so the same must apply to all Israel's actions and viewpoints

Hamas is not to be trusted. This is not the group to create peace in the region. What blood might be shed now is nothing to what would be shed should a false peace be made.

Every administration is so hungry to be the one who brought peace to the Middle East, or at least a resolution, that they are grasping at straws. The Middle East can have peace but only when the ingredients are right.

CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR

6/2012: “The West has been largely silent on Palestinian nonviolent resistance, which is unifying groups like Fatah and Hamas. Unless the West recognizes these peaceful initiatives, some Palestinians may question whether civil protest is any better than its violent alternative --- 'While in the past many Palestinian refugees living in Lebanon have supported the path of armed resistance to fight for their rights, today they are peacefully taking to the streets.”

4/2014: “Palestinians must abandon the 'peace process -- Palestinians should not accept the current peace deal proposed by the US.”

- [U.S. Secretary of State] Kerry put forward an ambitious plan to resolve all the major issues that have bedeviled the conflict within the space of nine months.

- The result he envisaged was a "final-status agreement" over borders, security, Jerusalem and refugees, which when resolved, would supposedly end the conflict for good.

- Now close to the deadline proposed by Kerry, it is clear that no settlement is in the offing. Desperate to salvage the process.

- Kerry has come up with the idea of a "Framework Agreement" that sets out basic principles for the two sides to negotiate on in future. This, he hopes, will keep the "peace process" going for longer.

(….more hold-ups…..)

- Yet Israel's policy has been the exact opposite. In December 2013, Israeli ministers voted eight to three to annex the Jordan valley.

- AND…from the start of this year, (2014) West Bank settlements were set to be expanded by 2,553 new housing units.
(A law preventing the Israeli prime minister from discussing
the status of Jerusalem or the refugee issue at the peace talks without prior majority approval from the Israeli parliament, was proposed in January).

- In an attempt to deter the US secretary of state further,
senior Israeli officials have been accusing him of being an anti-Semite.

- The final straw came last week when Israel refused to release 26 Palestinian prisoners, the last of a total of 104 long time prisoners whose release was agreed on as a condition for the Palestinians' participation in the revived peace negotiations, last summer.

- Fearing that they would now pull out as a result of this Israeli breach of its commitments, the US has been making frantic efforts to prevent such an outcome, proposing an extension of the talks beyond the April 29 deadline. Israel has responded by offering to release the prisoners but only if the Palestinians agree to the talks' extension.
