Climate Change: Consensus

Perhaps recalling the parts of the Bible in which God asks that his followers be good stewards to the Earth, the World Council of Christians, a global coalition of 345 churches moved to no longer invest in oil, gas, or coal companies and urged their members to follow their lead.

Sandwiched in between other administrative and organizational decisions about how to go forward, the WCC tackled the organization’s responsibility to the environment.

“The committee discussed the ethical investment criteria, and considered that the list of sectors in which the WCC does not invest should be extended to include fossil fuels.”

The move is the biggest one yet by Christian groups attempting to reconcile the damages that climate change is causing with their beliefs to serve the planet well.

In a statement sent from its meeting in Geneva, the group strongly condemned the rampent burning of fossil fuels and its effects on the environment:

“The World Council of Churches reminds us that morality demands thinking as much about the future as about ourselves–and that there’s no threat to the future greater than the unchecked burning of fossil fuels,” said Bill McKibben, the founder of 350.org, a global climate campaign that is supporting the divestment effort. “This is a remarkable moment for the 590 million Christians in its member denominations: a huge percentage of humanity says today ‘this far and no further.’”

This isn’t from a fringe group either, the WCC includes many of the biggest churches in the world. The 25 million-member Church of England and the 48 million-member Ethiopian Orthadox Tewahedo Church count themselves as members of the umbrella Christian coalition group.

One can financially divest themselves from hydrocarbons, but in reality they end up investing still more through increased utility costs. Obama is out to kill the golden egg-laying goose, and every single one of us mother-scratchers are going to pay the price.

WE THE PEOPLE are about to be Fundamentally Transformed.

Regarding divestment, take a good hard look at this graphic and tell me just wherein America does growth resides?

Have they discovered why there is a total vacuum between you ears?

That would be news worthy...

How does extracting oil and coal, the answer to economic hardships, cause or affect the greenhouse effect? The denying of extracting fossil fuels is based in AGW theory. Makes no sense.
Explain that for us, OP
.

Let me help, seeing as how you are unable to understand that AFTER the oil and coal are EXTRACTED (which is what you are hanging your hat on) it (coal, oil) gets burnt. Yep, sure does. And that is the answer to your stupid question; the coal and oil gets burnt adding to the greenhouse effect.

See, that wasn't hard now was it?

Someone asks you to explain and what do you do? Act like the typical elitist, condescending, global warming alarmist.

Now hows about explaining your viewpoint without belittling people?

Explain how, with increasing levels of Co2, the Continental US has cooled since 1998 or 1999 your pick.

I have already done my 'splaining for this day. Besides. Why waste anymore of mine and yours time?
There is NOTHING that either one of us could say, do, read, apply common sense or anything else that would make either one of us change our minds about what's happening.

Besides, it (this topic of GW) has been done to death on this board.

But are you really surprised that it's cold in the Southern hemisphere? Really? It is winter down under you know.

It is no surprise that the WCC took a liberal position that is pretty much what they do. But it is equally not surprising that the faith are NOT anti-science. Big Bang theory, developed by a RC priest.

What is disingenuous of the whole thing is how you don't mind using religion for your purposes while most of the time you couldn't think of one good thing to say about those of religion.

What you are doing above is called "projecting". As in "projecting" what your opinion is on a particular subject as fact, without proof or even sound reason.

Why you doing that?
