Gun Background Checks Pass in Washington

What I don't like is the data base is kept by the Dept. of Licensing. And once you have a list of who owns what the next easy step is registration. This is a windfall for FFL dealers as it all has to go through them, taxes to be collected and handed over to the state. If the law was just about a background check it would not be written this way, but we know what the true objective of Bloomberg really is.

This is why the initiative process is a bad idea, too many people voting for shit they don't understand. That's why we are a republic, not a democracy.

I've been telling you for weeks that this initiative will pass.

All you did was verbally and personally attack me for telling you the truth.

By the way, I 591 LOST! By a 10 point margin.

So not only will there be background checks on all gun sales, you gun nuts didn't succeed in repealing all our gun safety laws or make it illegal to pass more gun safety laws.

Sucks to be conservative in Washington doesn't it? You will ALWAYS be in the minority in our state.

You've got 2 choices. Deal with it or leave.

and less people die.

As you must know, 2nd, the US has a total homicide rate between 4x and 10x that of most other major, western economies.

Reduce the number of guns = reduce the number of murders. It really is as simple as that.

Again, then work to repeal the 2nd amendment. Until then **** OFF.

There is nothing in the constitution that says guns can't be regulated. In fact there's the commerce clause and the second amendment that says that guns can be regulated.

The second amendment doesn't need to be repealed.

Regulation does not mean make it harder for law abiding people to get firearms if they so choose. THAT is infringement, and THAT is unconstitutional.

What's so hard about going through a background check?

If you're a law abiding citizen you shouldn't have any problem with it.

I don't mind them at all. And in fact, I support a background check on the PERSON. The problem is the people pushing this crap always include gun registration along with the background check. It is no business of the government to know who has what.

Read the law. It doesn't add any regulations beyond requiring a background check on all gun sales. The law does require the background check on the person. What else are they going to check? The background of the gun or the seller?

The laws prohibiting certain people from getting guns are already on the books. They've been there for years.

All this law does is help enforce those already existing laws.

No, they don't. If you really wanted to stop violent crime you would lock the violent criminals up and throw away the key. The facts are that 80 percent of all violent crime is committed by 8% of the criminal population. You want to stop crime? Lock them up.

We do,but that 8% is majority black offenders, locking them up and throwing away the key would be "labeled" racist.
The liberal majority will also ask if you have no compassion for "rehabilitation of a brother", how could you possibly suggest that we abandon them in some dark, dank, prison ......................

Hint: Some parts of this post contain sarcasm ........................

it does nothing, and you are too stupid to realize it.

I've probably taken shits with a higher IQ than yours.

You are a goddamn liar. NOW that's an attack, asshole!

**** you and the rest of you brain dead potheads. You couldn't address my point so you attacked me and claimed I was the one attacking you.

There are a great many conservatives here and have been successful in keeping this a shall issue state, much to the disappointment of the libtards but it takes more than a ballot initiative for the clueless to overturn a state constitutional issue. Deal with it or leave, asshole.

All gun sales in the state of Washington will now have to go through a background check. It passed with 60% majority. I voted with the majority.

So now it will be harder for criminals, those with mental problems and domestic abusers to get a gun. They won't be able to do it legally in the state of Washington anymore.

Interesting, when it's put to the vote of the people, background checks passes. Clearly the people of our nation want all gun sales to go through a background check. Too bad that the nra can buy gop politicians to prevent the same law at the federal level.

Lives will be saved in Washington because of this law.

Voters approve expanded gun background checks in Washington state - Local - MyNorthwest.com

This is a stupid law. Why should someone need to pass a background check to purchase a gun? Damn liberals are just trying to keep honest Americans from buying guns.

That is just keeping criminals from owning guns.....

Yes, since most people don't actually understand what this law will do...they vote according to the feel good phrase "background check" and assume it will help stop crime or mass shootings...which it won't do...

.lives will be saved, and that is what we should all focus on.

Research into the matter shows you are wrong....

You are right about street thugs not getting their guns through normal channels, but the guy who is a mental case usually just goes to a gun show to buy his guns before killing those who pissed him off a day or two before.

No, not really, the theater killer...passed background checks, Santa Barbara killer...passed background checks...Sandy Hook, couldn't pass background check...comitted murder and felony theft to get his guns....

Back ground checks are dumb and pointless...

Criminals, those with mental problems and domestic abusers could not get guns legally BEFORE this legislation.
I laugh at you, to your face.

So the idea that if we have strict gun laws only criminals will have guns, is not borne out in reality in countries with strict gun laws.

Actually, you are wrong...guns are found in their criminal populations just not their law abiding citizen populations...in Australia...their criminal biker gangs and their immigrant communities have the guns...in Britain...ditto....

Yeah they only stab each other instead.

Yes, because of the phony War on Drugs.

Saigon...again you only put up one half of the equation....you never mention that on average 1.4 million times a year guns are used to save lives and stop violent criminal attack in the United States....

Soooo...Saigon...

gun murders....11-12,000 per year....vs....lives saved and violent crimes stopped....1.4 million....hmmmmm, can you see which number is bigger....?

And all those European countries do is make sure that the citizens who are attacked by violent criminals quietly submit to the rape, brutal beatings, robberies and murders....because the criminals still exist, and they still attack the weak, the old, women and anyone they can outnumber....

But it is better they are raped, robbed, beaten or murdered, than they save themselves and their loved ones with a gun....nice trade off....of course the politicians in those countries have full access to armed security...as do the rich in those countries...it is only the average, law abiding citizen...the serfs...who are unarmed....

Yep, because its a constitutional right to shoot up a school!

yeah....no....to do that they break several laws that were created by anti gunners.....and yet schools are still shot up...

And does it explain in the constitution why electoral funding laws do not always apply to the NRA?

The NRA is covered by the same laws as Unions, lawyers and other left wing groups...

You do realize that the NRA is not even in the top 20 of campaign funders right? That the anti gunners match them dollar for dollar and even more...right?

When the loophole that allows for criminals to buy guns is closed, less criminals will be able to get guns.

There is no way anyone can legally sell a gun in Washington without doing the background check thanks to this law. If a criminal goes to a friend or private sale without a background check, both the buyer and seller have broken the law. Which will decrease the number of guns sold to criminals.

See, you don't even see how you are wrong...if you sell a gun to a felon...you have already committed a crime...and will go to jail...the background check does nothing to change this....

Here is a rational look at this stupid law...

So much for the claim that Nine out of 10 Americans support expanded background checks - Crime Prevention Research Center

It is frequently claimed that 90 percent of Americans support expanded the expanded background check bills that are being considered before different legislatures, though other surveys indicate that support for the actual bills is below 50 percent.

Well, gun control advocates were able to write up their own initiative (594) and put it on the ballot in Washington State. With what may turn out to be a 50-to-1 spending advantage ($9.5 million to what appears to be a couple hundred thousand ($1.7 million was spent on another gun initiative)), the initiative passed with just less than 60 percent of the vote.

What this vote implies is that even under ideal circumstances with a massive campaign spending advantage and picking a liberal state where they thought that the would do well, about 60 percent of the voters supported the initiative. Why do gun control advocates feel it necessary to so greatly exaggerate support for their initiatives? It will be interesting to see if the 90 percent claim keeps being made.

This is how stupid background checks are...

John Lott s Website The Problem with Brady Background Checks Virtually all of those denied purchasing a gun are false positives

Take the numbers for 2009, the latest year with data available. There were 71,010 initial denials. Of those, only 4,681, or 6.6 percent, were referred to the BATF field offices for further investigation. As a report on these denials by the U.S. Department of Justice indicates, “The remaining denials (66,329 – 93%) did not meet referral guidelines or were overturned after review by Brady Operations or after the FBI received additional information.”

The last two of these three categories are clearly false positives. The first might involve false positives, but it is possible that the disqualifying offenses are too old (though there are some prosecutions that involve misdemeanor violations that are four decades old so that isn't too obvious). To put it differently, the initial review didn’t find that these individuals had a record that prevented them from buying a gun. (Numbers for 2010 are available here.)

Still that isn’t the end of the story. Of these 4,681 referrals, over 51 percent, or 2,390 cases, involve “delayed denials,” cases where a check hasn’t even been completed. Of the rest, 2,291 covered cases where initial reviews indicated that the person should have been denied buying a gun. But the government admits that upon further review another 572 of these referrals were found “not [to be] a prohibited person,” leaving about 4,154 cases. That implies an initial false positive rate of roughly 94.2%. And it still doesn’t mean that the government hasn’t made a mistake on the remaining cases. In some cases for example, a person’s criminal record was supposed to be expunged, and it had not been?

So what you are doing is just inconveniencing good people...law abiding people...and not stopping criminals or murderers from getting guns....

What a waste of time....but the anti gunners sure feel good....

This won't have any impact on saving lives. It will only make it more difficult for law abiding citizens to obtain a gun, and criminals will just go around the law anyway.
