Gun Background Checks Pass in Washington

All gun sales in the state of Washington will now have to go through a background check. It passed with 60% majority. I voted with the majority.

So now it will be harder for criminals, those with mental problems and domestic abusers to get a gun. They won't be able to do it legally in the state of Washington anymore.

Interesting, when it's put to the vote of the people, background checks passes. Clearly the people of our nation want all gun sales to go through a background check. Too bad that the nra can buy gop politicians to prevent the same law at the federal level.

Lives will be saved in Washington because of this law.

delusions. crooks won't go through background checks anymore than addicts buy their drugs from pharmacies

when it fails, you will demand more gun laws

The reason why they don't go through background checks is because there's a loophole in the federal law big enough to drive a Mack truck through. All this law does is close those loopholes.

If they have to go through a background check no matter who they buy from, they're they're much less likely to get a gun.

If you say that this law won't do anything then why are you so upset that the law passed? If it's a worthless law you shouldn't have any problem with it.

london has become famous for 2 things

strict gun control and

easy availability of firearms for the criminal classes

it does nothing, and you are too stupid to realize it.

Well Marty, if the law "does nothing" as you say, THEN WHY IN THE **** ARE YOU GUN NUTTER ASSHOLES GOING APESHIT OVER IT? And you don't even live in the state. Good god you ***** are stupid.
Hey, Zeke. Is English a foreign language to you? Because when he writes the law does nothing, he doesnt mean literally nothing. He means it does nothing to solve the problem it was designed for. It certainly does something: makes it more difficult for a person to buy and sell his property. And criminalizes otherwise law abiding people. The fact that he doesnt live there is irrelevant.

You "channeling" Marty now rabbit?

Here's the deal. A bunch of my fellow Americans that live in a state that I don't live in DECIDED through the ballot box that THEY wanted to try an approach to curb gun violence. That is their right. If you all don't like it.......well tough ******* shit would be my response IF I lived in the state of Washington. You and your gun nutters should have been in Washington before the election so you could have "educated" the voting public. But no, you gun nutters didn't do that. You just want to ***** about something.

If as you claim the law doesn't do what was intended, they will find out soon enough. Can even repeal if needed.

Actually what gun nutters are afraid of is the the LAW WILL WORK AS INTENDED. Scares you to death.

Wow, a bunch of people in multiple states voted to say marriage is between one man and one woman, I guess those can be ignored, right?

******* hypocrite.

Of course, the "law" is no law and must be ignore by all freemen.

The retards have no authority to interfere with their fellow citizens right to life and to defend the same.

The only possible result of the edict is to prevent law abiding citizens from defending themselves.

I can't pretend to care about your experience. Do you have a link? I tend to believe the ATF over you.
Fact Sheet Illegal gun trafficking arms criminals youth Gun Victims Action Council
Corrupt federally licensed gun dealers: Federally licensed gun dealers send more guns to the criminal market than any other single source. Nearly 60% of the guns used in crime are traced back to a small number—just 1.2%—of crooked gun dealers. Corrupt dealers frequently have high numbers of missing guns, in many cases because they’re selling guns “off the books” to private sellers and criminals. In 2005, the ATF examined 3,083 gun dealers and found 12,274 “missing” firearms.
You understand a dealer caught selling guns to criminals is going to jail, right? And the ATF does periodic inspections of dealer, including careful inventory. And the margin on such sales is stil pretty low.
So I'd say your source sucks, your knowledge base is off, and you don't have a clue.

Now, how will registration and background checks prevent criminals from stealing those same guns and reselling them?

You have no source so I win. Thanks for playing.

If you talk to gun people then guns prevent crime right? So I guess if they had to rely on stealing guns from gun owners as their only source it should be much more difficult for them right?
I have actual experience, unlike you.
There are thousands of guns in circulation. Millions, actually. Actually like 300 million. Virtually all of them are unregistered and unaccounted for. And guns get stolen every single day.
So tell me how registeration and background checks will prevent criminals getting them.
This is like the 5th time I've posted this question and you can't answer it.

Sorry but your opinion is pretty much worthless. Clearly you can't back it up with anything. The ATF knows more than you. I have answered the question several times, you better go back and read. Registering guns would end many of the sources of guns for criminals. There would be very few straw purchases if guns are registered and all sales require background checks. That should be obvious.
My opinion is worthless to you because it contradicts your perception. The article was bogus. Guns taken from a dealer's inventory without proper procedure are also stolen, nitwit.
Again, if guns are registered how will that stop straw purchases? Do you even know what a straw purchase is?

I've answered your questions and posted links explaining straw purchases. I'm not sure you are smart enough to be on this board.

You haven't lost any rights.

In fact no one loses any right to have a gun with this law. Those who will be prevented from getting guns lost their right to have one long before this law. When they committed a felony, or if they have mental problems or if they're a domestic abuser they lose their right to have a gun when they committed the original crime or when they were found to have mental problems.

Our society decided a long time ago that those people shouldn't have guns. All this law does is make sure that they don't get them. The honor system we've been using thus far has not worked and has gotten thousands of people killed.
But they will still get guns. This law won't stop them in any way. But im glad to see you agree voter id's won't cause anyone to lose any rights

Oh look. Here's an article with an interview w ATF agents saying just what i've said all along. Straw purchases account for some number of illegal guns. Hey, let's make straw purchases illegal!
Inside the Black Market for Guns - Forbes

Your link seems to agree with me actually:
“Sometimes,” said Agent Zamaloff, “guns out there,” he waved his right hand at 35thfloor windows and the New York City streets below, “are found at a crime scene soon after being sold at a store. The gun, of course, was sold to someone who doesn’t have a criminal record—a straw purchaser. The straw purchaser buys the gun for someone who can’t. Sometimes a straw purchaser will even learn that a gun has turned up in a crime and will quickly report it as being stolen; either way, this gives us a chance to open and possibly broaden an investigation into what might be a number of individuals involved in a gunrunning ring.”

Can't get away with being a straw purchaser if guns are registered and every sale requires a background check.

Why NY gun laws are limited. Federal laws are really needed.

The three agents then explained that about 80 percent of the crime guns found in New York City come from out of state. That makes sense; after all, New Jersey and Connecticut are within commuting distance of New York City. They also said the average “time to crime” (the time it takes for a gun sold from a gun dealer to make it to a criminal’s hands and then to a crime scene) is 12 to 13 years in New York City. “In that time a handgun could easily go through four or more owners,” said Agent Mulham.

No, what is needed is NY laws have to be declared unconstitutional and my rights restored to me. All the laws in NY do is stop ME from having a firearm, they do nothing to stop criminals from having them.

Stiffening gun laws only makes it harder for victims to buy a gun.

Criminals can always get a gun and if you know that everyone's not packing heat your average criminal isn't afraid of committing crimes.

Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country yet the murder rate is still thru the roof. You damned near can't own a handgun in New York City yet violent crimes are at epidemic levels. Most mass shootings occurred in gun-free zones.

The list goes on and on.

Gun ownership seems harder on legal owners than criminals. About 600 accidental deaths a year vs only 230 criminals shot and killed each year. Making guns harder to get should save lives.

First off the paragraph you quoted supports me. If they find a gun at a scene they have no idea how it got there.
Second, how will registering guns and requiring background checks (which are already required btw) stop straw purchases? Do you even know what a straw purchase is?

Explain what it takes for you to get a gun.

To buy a gun in New York City, you must first seek authorization from the New York License Division office by filling out a Handgun Purchase Authorization form. After they have approved your request to buy a gun, you can then purchase a handgun from any licensed handgun dealer. After you have purchased your new handgun, you will be required to return to the License Division with your new handgun to have the handgun's make, model, and serial number recorded on your handgun license. If you do not already have a handgun license, you must first complete the Handgun License Application and turn it in to the License Division with the applicable fees to gain the clearance and authorization for buying a handgun.

To get a carry permit is even more onerous.
