Barney Frank, entering hospice care, embarks on a final act:

Taking on the left

The former Massachusetts lawmaker says progressives in his party have “embraced an agenda that goes beyond what’s politically acceptable.”
28 Apr 2026 ~~ By Jasper Goodman

Former Rep. Barney Frank, a liberal icon who was a key architect of the landmark Wall Street regulations Democrats enacted in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, has entered hospice care at his home in Maine. And as one of his last acts, he is preparing to release a book repudiating his party’s left flank.
A champion of liberal causes during his 32 years representing Massachusetts in the House, Frank says progressive Democrats have “embraced an agenda that goes beyond what’s politically acceptable.”
“Until we separate ourselves from that agenda, we don’t win,” he said in an interview Tuesday.

“At 86, I’ve made it longer than I thought,” Frank said. “At some point, my heart’s just going to give out, and it’s reaching that stage. So I’m taking it easy at home and dealing with it by relaxing.”
Known for his acerbic wit and sometimes combative style, Frank chaired the House Financial Services Committee through the heart of the 2008 financial crisis, from 2007 to 2011.

Commentary:
As he gets closer to his time to meet his maker, Barney Frank wants to right some of the wrongs he sees in the Democrat Party.
As I recall, wasn’t Barney Frank one of the legislators who pushed through the legislation which caused the 2008 financial crises?
I would not wish congestive heart failure upon anyone. While there are more and better treatments, and we know some prevention, it is a fatal progressive disease that kills many each year.
Frank is 86 so there's no sympathy forth coming. He's led his life and it's time to meet his maker.
He's lived longer than the average American male.

He's still a Democrat, it's all about winning elections.

How about this Barney? "We MUST separate ourselves from that agenda. It is fundamentally wrong regardless of winning elections".

because of Barney, Dodd and Waters, the banks were able to steal more of our hard earned money. Before the housing fiasco created by Andrew Cuomo, you could modify a 30 year loan to be paid every two weeks that lowering the interest on the last 15 days by starting anew. So you cut out 10s of thousands of dollars, while their was also a 26th payment that went to principle. Thus a 30 year loan because a 22 year loan. I know because i had that set up, before the market crash, and couldnt get another bi weekly loan at my new house.

No, Barney Frank had nothing to do with either the Commodities Futures Modernization Act, or the Gramm Leach Bliely Act, both of which were principal contributors to the 2008 crash.

However right wing media blamed him anyway. Largely because he was openly gay.

He finally realized the DemoKKKrat party of 2026 would hang him from a bridge for being a queer.

Will be interested to see the book.

I hope the rest of his life is comfortable.

I don't like him.....but he's facing something much bigger than politics.
I don't wish illness or death on anyone. His statement sounded like the same old Democrat mantra to me, but it's possible he was inferring something else.

Largely because he was to blame.
He was not involved with either piece of legislation.

The GOP Congress didn't want to do anything about the rampant speculation in credit default swaps and mortgages.

The repeatedly sidelined attempts to do so.

When the collapse came, Barney Frank was the ranking member of the Banking Committee, powerless against the majority.

But the right wing myth was promoted vigerously. Trading, as usual, on bigotry, and the secure understanding that most of the audience knew little or nothing about how government works, the role of the Fed, and the effects of Republican led "reforms" during the 1990's that opened up the speculative floodgates.

We all get to face death in the end.
Frank is 86yrs. old, I'm 90yrs old. with the same aliments.
Death is inevitable...Make your peace and accept it.
I live one day at a time.

Barney Frank, as the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, was a significant advocate for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. He initially believed these government-sponsored enterprises were stable and did not pose a risk to the economy. His support included opposing regulatory reforms proposed by the Bush administration aimed at strengthening oversight of these institutions.
Frank finally recognized that the push for homeownership among individuals who could not afford it was misguided. He admitted that this approach contributed to the housing crisis, suggesting that renting might have been a more suitable option for many.

Yes, we heard this fairy tale when it happened.

Frank was a socialist....now....he's what? Looking forward to his book.
