It's what's known as a gotcha question. Abbott was right to ignore it.

Abbott said he would eliminate rape in Texas. It's not a gotcha question to ask him how he planned to do that.

If I was the interviewer, I would also have asked Abbott why he waited until now to commit to that promise since 15,000 women have been raped in Texas on his watch.
