Greenland says they don't want to join America

Can anyone here come up with a rational reason that we have to overtake them since we already buy all the resources we ask for, and we already have a military presence there. It is critical for America, Canada and Europes security that if and when Russia or China decide to attack Greenland that they do not do so successfully.

Do you realize how close Canada is to Greenland? How about the straight path to Europe? It is the perfect staging ground for any serious military and it has a large amount of critical minerals which an advanced economy can utilize.

I find it a bit creepy how the world pretends they care about Greenland if America were to absorb it and turn them into citizens but they are ok that an old relic monarchy in Denmark is their ultimate overlord.

The citizens of Greenland can choose for themselves what direction they would like to pursue. THe world doesn't want America to absorb them because it will weaken ALL of Europes old, declining kingdoms since America would be a great benefit to the citizens of Greenland. China and Russia in particular would be heavily against this pursuit as they have their eyes ultimately on that piece of real estate.

They are an independent nation so why not have a referendum after some lobbying by American politician?
