Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede rejected President Trump's claim in his sweeping address Tuesday night that the U.S. was "going to get" control of Greenland.

"We need Greenland for national security and even international security. And we're working with everybody involved to try and get it," Mr. Trump said. "But we need it really for international world security. And I think we're going to get it — one way or the other, we're going to get it. We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before."

"Kalaallit Nunaat (Greenland in the Greenlandic language) is ours," Egede wrote on social media. "We don't want to be Americans, nor Danes; We are Kalaallit. The Americans and their leader must understand that. We are not for sale and cannot simply be taken. Our future will be decided by us in Greenland."

I can't say I blame them in the least.

After all, would I want a government running my country that is the clown show of the Swamp?

Hell no.

But I also see Trump's concern about regional stability to make sure Greenland does not go rogue

Really, Greenland's charm is its isolation and cold weather. It keeps the crazies away.

I think the end results will be a greater presence in Greenland, including military bases. It won't be ours but we will have much greater influence than we do now. Might get a long term military agreement there, which I believe we already have had. And, America will invest in the country and have more economic clout there. At some time in the far off future their residents will vote if they want to be part of the US or not. I suspect the vote won't be so far off as they would lead you to believe now.

Aside from the cold weather, it is probably the last Garden of Eden on the face of the earth, but it looks like the world simply won't let them be.

What Trump has been saying is that he wants the people of Greenland to decide. Maybe that goes beyond what the self-interested prime minister has to say. As with the Panama Canal, Trump will get what he wants, and Greenland will be better for it.

Only Congress can do that, and there is no chance in Hell of it happening.

They will be better for it?

How?

Would you want the Circus as your government?

I know that I don't.

They are very strategic and have lots of minerals and rare Earths.

It's all just rhetoric they will join somebody and most likely it will be America and it won't be in the top distant future. Denmark's economy is horrible.... Greenland doesn't have enough people to survive on taxation. They will either join willingly under the umbrella of a larger Nation or they will absolutely be consumed against their will by one of the big players.

So Trump wants to invade GREENLAND??

Sacrificing freedom for comfort and safety, the bane of mankind.

Yeah I suppose.... Not quite sure what to say about it except the world we live in is what it is.
Ultimately it would be great if Communism worked but it never does.

And he wants to torture all the puppies there, and he wants to fuck each and every woman on the island including the underaged ones, and he wants to take a shit in the water supply and watch them drink it.

Not so.

Only on Tuesdays and Fridays.

I agree. It's like that idiotic notion of annexing Canada as a 51st state.

Do we want to add 40 million extreme leftists to our elections? The GOP would never win again.

Yep, careful what you wish for.

That said expel all the Quebeckers and it might work.

Let's face it, most of the FUBAR goings on in Hoserland has a French sounding name attached.

I'm not sure how Greenland would go rogue. There's only about 60,000 people there.

GREENLAND (The Borowitz Report)—The government of Greenland has named a special ambassador to greet members of the Trump administration when they visit the territory this week, a Greenlandic official announced on Tuesday.

The government spokesman, Hartvig Dorkelson, said that the newly-appointed ambassador will meet the American visitors “the moment they step off the plane.”

“We know that members of this delegation are very interested in Greenland’s natural resources,” the spokesman said. “Thanks to our ambassador, they will have an encounter with Greenlandic nature that they won’t soon forget.”

According to the spokesman, the ambassador’s plans for the visitors include lunch.
