Go right ahead get rid of the filibuster it's an awesome idea

The Senate is 50/50 at the moment and Manchin could take that away by going independent or Republican, so getting rid of the filibuster is stupid but no one said the Democratic Party was smart in the first damn place!

It goes beyond Manchin, it goes to the future of the Senate

The Senate is broken. Ending the filibuster will fix that
Manchin can still oppose a bill in the open vote

This OP is filled w/fear.
No, but you should be and why?

Simple, the GOP will regain the House and Senate and doing away with the filibuster will ensure the GOP can play just like the Democratic Party did, and then you will complain it ain’t right!

You never learn from the Patriot Act to this stupidity, so you get what you deserve!

That is another problem with the Senate
They never have to actually vote on the record

It is blocked before it gets that far
Yup. It seems to be one of jobs of majority leader to protect the records of the senate members in his caucus . Any majority leader who forces a vote to filibuster or bringing legislation up for a vote he knows might not pass, makes foes in his own caucus.

Let them
See if they can overturn a Presidential veto

Meanwhile Manchin is only doing what his own constituents want in a deeply red state that went strongly for Trump. He will probably have to give up his seat if he gives Schumer a blank check. A lot of congressmen lost their seats voting for the Affordable Care act too.

Democrats have to be careful with Manchin

If he is replaced, he will be replaced with a Republican not a more liberal Democrat

Agree, IMO, you have to play for today and not worry about tomorrow.

That is why Dems have to pass as much legislation as they can. It may be decades before they have another opportunity

They will select a Senator who is young enough for an extended filibuster

Even then, he will only delay the process, not stop it
That's all you can do with a filibuster now...the dems want to stop the filibuster, really because they don't want to have have debate on bills. That's all

By so doing, they will merely cement for themselves the position of refusing to work with the opposition and lose all credibility for when they start whining that they are in the minority and have no say in anything.

The Senate has no credibility
Nobody works with the opposition

Blame Mitch

That's the purpose of the filibuster, after all. Delay to force more debate, more deliberation.
Only today’s filibuster does none of that

It just allows a minority to silently block legislation

how is it broken
how will forcing both sides to agree to changes fix it?

the dems did this 324 times under trump. why was it ok then?

stop this "instant gratification" crap and simply play by the agreed upon rules.

You’ll never learn. Trump has lost lost the house, senate, in lauding two runoff senate elections in a red state and his own election again by a bigger margin. Don’t count on winning.
Patriot Act ? After strengthing the home front, it became an excuse to invade a sovereign nation that had nothing to do with 911 while sending us into a recession. The old bait and switch the grifter gop lies about…..just like all their tax cuts will generate more revenue and not cause deep deficits and recessions. Bull Shit artists !

That's because Democrats are motherfucking hypocrites. They're the ones (Dingy Harry Reid, anyone?) who set this rule up in the first place, now they are crying like the little babies they are because the Republicans are throwing right back into their pathetic little faces. And they (Democrats) are now in full panic mode because they know they're in for a major bloodbath this year at the polls.

So you think that by ELIMINATING the opposition and ensuring permanent far Left one party rule would bring unicorns and rainbows?
