Go right ahead get rid of the filibuster it's an awesome idea

Bring it to a floor vote and force Manchin and Sinema to vote with the Republicans.

Point out who is who
I agree with that. But just that alone doesn’t guarantee any filibuster reform. Both need to be primaried.

The Dems control both Houses of Congress and the White House
While this is in effect, Dems need to pass as much legislation as they can.

Eliminating the Filibuster will allow that

When Republicans hold all three, they can reverse what the Dems have passed
It was not designed that way. The Senate was supposed to slow things down and do a LOT of deliberating and debating. I know that chaps your partisan drawers, as you want to ram through as many things as you can that the people don't want or need, but it was a genius move by the Founding Fathers to make mob rule that much less likely.

Democrats are trying to enact mob rule. Get a momentary numerical advantage and ram through what they want, regardless. Naturally, they will squeal like stuck pigs when it's turned on them, but they can't see that far ahead.

That is another problem with the Senate
They never have to actually vote on the record

It is blocked before it gets that far

The filibuster in its original form made sense. But old white guys in both parties decided it was too hard on their feeble old bodies, and made just the threat, enough to force a 60 vote majority.
It’s typical old white guy bull shit.
um the threat? isn’t it the Senate majority leader that is the one falling for the threat? they can still bring it to the floor, force the filibuster

With the filibuster, legislation never even comes up for debate

The founders wanted debate and compromise. Our Constitution was built on compromise.
Now, even if a bill has the needed bipartisan support, it never sees the light of day. The filibuster and Senate majority leader will block it

The best way to eliminate that is to make the filibuster real. If you want to stall a piece of legislation, get your butt in front of a microphone and start talking.

Agree

That’s the plan when the majority can’t get enough vote commitment ahead of time.

Old farts would lose their power.

Even if there are enough votes to pass and even over 60 votes, a bill will not necessarily come up for a vote

If a bill has 50 Republicans and 10 Democrats supporting it, a Democratic Majority Leader will never bring it up for a vote.

Same goes for a Republican Majority Leader.

The Majority Leader should not have that much power

Hence the informal vote ahead of a decision to bring it to the floor.

The senate majority leader only has as much power as the majority of the majority wants. McConnell is a prick because the majority of the republicans in the senate, are pricks. He doesn’t do anything that is not in full support of his majority.
It ties into the Hastert Rule in the House

A bill having the majority in the House or Senate is not enough
It must have the majority of the majority party.

McConnell has said that many times…though not in those words. The keep their job because they do what their majority wants.

Yup……but It’s not that cut and dry. Bills have many parts to them. It’s up to both houses in the majority to ultimately agree upon the passage of any bill. That means the majority in each house may have to compromise.

Not everyone is a young as Jimmy Stewart was when Mr. Smith went to Washington.

the reality is it always still only takes 51 votes to pass anything, what the dems want to do is shut down debate on a bill, and just go start to voting

That doesn't matter. If they're too old to do the job, they shouldn't be there. If the job requires the stamina to do a filibuster, then they should be expected to have it.

They will select a Senator who is young enough for an extended filibuster

Even then, he will only delay the process, not stop it

It is majority rule

If the majority elect a House that is Democratic
And a majority elect a Senate that is Democratic
And a majority elect a President that is Democratic

They should be able to pass legislation without being blocked by the minority
The Senate is 50/50 at the moment and Manchin could take that away by going independent or Republican, so getting rid of the filibuster is stupid but no one said the Democratic Party was smart in the first damn place!
