It appears that people are really worried about the no-labels party.

While Alternet is Alternut, it is interesting they chose to report this.

From the article quoting one speaker discussing strategy to tamp down the No Labels Party:

"Through every channel we have, to their donors, their friends, the press, everyone — everyone — should send the message: If you have one fingernail clipping of a skeleton in your closet, we will find it," one speaker said on the strategy call. "If you think you were vetted when you ran for governor, you're insane. That was nothing. We are going to come at you with every gun we can possibly find."

The call.......

Semafor reported this week that several groups, including progressive nonprofit MoveOn, the Lincoln Project (a group founded by several prominent anti-Trump Republicans), Public Citizen and American Bridge held a conference call to strategize a counter to the group No Labels' stated plans to run a third-party candidate in the upcoming presidential election. The call was also joined by conservative columnist Bill Kristol, GOP strategist Sarah Longwell (publisher of anti-Trump conservative outlet The Bulwark), former Sen. Doug Jones (D-Alabama) and Dmitri Melhorn, who is an aide to Democratic-aligned billionaire Reid Hoffman.

It's time to take things to the final level. No holds barred. Time to smear anyone and everyone to the point NOBODY gives a flying fig and the elections are trashed.

Then we just ignore them. And we take the same attitude. We all get traffic ticked after traffic ticket and don't pay the fines. We crowd the jails. We let our mortgages lapse and everyone goes on the street.

F**k the whole place.

If these bastards believe this will fly, we'll scorch things to the point they'll wish they'd never heard of DJT or anyone else.

This is garbage.

I don't like impeachment.

And I don't like the Hunter Biden stuff.

And I don't care about "pu**y grabbing".

But this is where we are.

I don't blame them as much as I blame us.

It's what we asked for.

I hate to think I'll be reading about members of the Lincoln project being run down in the street or shot on their doorsteps. But it seems to be what we are asking for.

Congratulations !!!!

The truth is that nobody is concerned about the "no labels party" except "no labels" party members.

If you read the article, you'd see they are clearly concerned.

They know the No Labels Party won't win anything. Neither did Ross Perot.

But he sure screwed up the election.

If a couple of indies join in, the Left won't be able to easily figure out how many phony ballots to print...

You seem... ...overly dramatic.

You seem... ...overly dramatic.

Might be.

However, the idea that their strategy is to essentially blackmail people to stay out of the election doesn't sit well with me.

If they do it, we'll do it to them. We are already pointed towards a collapse.

This might just be the next step.

Interesting reading. . . thanks!

A broad anti-Trump coalition plots a campaign to stop a No Labels third-party bid

Opinion | No Labels Is Pushing a Lie That Will Elect Trump

". . . In 2016, Trump’s margin of victory was less than 50,000 votes in these states, and third parties won significantly more votes than that in each one. Did they flip the election for Trump? It’s possible . In 2020, with no third parties to contend with, Biden beat Trump in Michigan by 154,188 votes, Pennsylvania by 80,555 votes and Wisconsin by 20,682. All of those margins are smaller than what third parties received in 2016. These Blue Wall states will be close again in 2024, and if third parties perform similarly in 2024 as they did in 2016, they will deny Biden a second term.

This alone should give any responsible person pause. A No Labels candidate in these states could easily hand the election to Trump. But maybe that’s the goal. Whatever their original intentions, the people behind No Labels — including Harlan Crow , the GOP mega-donor who gifted travel and luxury vacations to Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas — are using dark money on this folly. The group is working to raise $70 million and has already qualified for the ballot in 12 states, including states that could be pivotal to the outcome, such as Arizona, Nevada and North Carolina.

There are serious questions about how the group’s ticket would be picked ( likely behind closed doors ) and whether acting like a political party without registering as one is legal. Not to mention, its own founders and staff are in “open revolt” over the group’s current aspirations.

While I’m not a fan of polling done more than a year out (seriously), The Wall Street Journal did an analysis that showed third parties would more likely draw votes from Biden. The report points to an NBC survey that has Biden and Trump tied head to head, but if you add a third-party candidate, Trump leads by 3 percent. (Of course, this math might change if Liz Cheney or RFK Jr. make a serious run.) New polling of young voters shows a similar dynamic, shrinking Biden’s lead with the introduction of third parties. . . "

Yes, read the end of the second article. They are scared to death it would mean victory for Trump.

And hence the threats coming from this group.

While I understand their concerns, threatening candidates or potential candidates like this amounts to blackmail. All articles say they can't win. So why smear them ? If your guy can't win on his own merits then tough s**t.

If the Lincoln Project wants to partcipate, then I will donate money to any group that digs up dirt on them or anyone else and heralds it to the world. We will see how many families are ruined because of some scandal that would break.

I find the whole thing disgusting and it really pisses me off. Any doubts I might have about voting for Trump are only further lessened as I read the kind of stuff people who don't want him in office are willing to do make that happen.

It's offensive to the process.

Those who stray outside the Borg collective must either be re-assimilated or destroyed.

I am dead serious when I say we should bury these guys.

I don't care if you are left or right, I am not about exposing all this personal bullcrap.

When Gary Hart fell, I wasn't sad. But at the same time I was really concerned about reporters going for dirt like Donna Rice. That pissed me off.

GOOD PEOPLE will never run for office if they can't trust we will respect their privacy and damn anyone who does stupid stuff.

And yes....that includes Hunter's laptop Porn.

People who do those kinds of things are pure evil. I have always resisted believing there is a Satanic element to it all, but it has gotten to the point that I now begin to wonder. I don't know how people get to the point they are so full of hate they can devote their time and energy trying to hurt, shame, embarrass people. You see it in politics. You see it in other elements of society. You see it here on USMB.

And it is ugly with nothing whatsoever to commend it. And it's especially sad because only the unhappiest and miserable of people engage in it.

What pisses me off is that they are so bent on winning they will throw all decency to the wind.

Which we know....but this is so overt it burns me to the core.

If they attempt to do this or if they do this, we should not stop until they feel the full weight of our disapproval to the point they never participate in politics again.

That is the key. Society becomes crude, rude, uncaring, selfish, cruel, hateful, destructive when it becomes socially acceptable to be that way. A society with values reinforced by social approval--manners, morals, thoughtfulness, courtesy, generosity, being responsible for yourself and your children, not being a burden on others, etc. etc.--is going to be the best environment for both prosperity and happiness.

My concern has been for years.....that we will not get GOOD PEOPLE to run for office. If they have a skeleton in their closet (a past mistake), it needs to stay there. Purposely dragging that out to defeat an opponent ticks me off.

Many people don't recall that Obama had an oppoent named Jack Ryan who was essentially forced out of the race (after winning the primary) when the democrats got a judge in CA to order their (then) sealed divorce proceedings unsealed.

It derailed Ryan and essentially handed the seat to Obama.

Slimy and another example of what one side will do to win. It sucks.

Ryan's son had to hear all about his parents lurid sex life as it came out in public.

Some think that is fair game.

That's fine. If I were running for office, I might openly speculate what position my opponents parents were using when he was conceived. It's about as meaningful as Ryan's past.

The politics of personal destruction, most especially when it is something that happened years, even decades ago, and has no bearing on their current job is evil. And honorable people should not tolerate it.

Here in Arizona, John McCain was known for exactly that. He attempted to negatively influence the lives of those who "got in his way" or disagreed with him on many occasions.

It's one of the reasons that AZ conservatives are such a mess. It's taking time to get past all his crap.

And I never liked the bastard for a lot of reasons, most of all the way he dumped his first wife.

But a lot of people revere him and are dumbfounded when I rehearse what a prick he was in real life.

War hero ? So what ?

War heros can be sleazebags too.

I don't blame them as much as I blame us.
It's what we asked for.
And, bingo. This is on us, and it always has been. And instead of dropping the egos and working together to fix this, we've instead chosen to retreat into tribes. Or, we stopped caring.

There is no excuse for the GQP to have sold its soul to the most obvious con man we've ever seen. There is no excuse for the Dems to have made themselves so goddamn repulsive that this con man can still win. So then we get the No Labels and Forward Party efforts out of desperation.

Either we're not paying attention, or we just don't give a shit any more. Or both. We deserve what we get.
