Ballots are ballots and polls are polls. People often vote for candidates they don't poll well for due to an opposition they like even less.
Macron isn't great, he is simply preferable. In a republic, that's all we have some times. In the U.S., there is only one vote for President each time and one can vote for other than the duopoly. This is satisfying to the soul, if not to the body politic.
