Watch and see,,,,,,,,,this was just a political trick to make Republicans look bad. Biden knows he cannot dole out 370 billion when Reagan couldnt get 5 million to help the Contras or Trump couldnt get money for the wall. Biden Gets peoples hopes turned up high and just before the election,,,,,Oh Oh The Republicans are Blocking your student loan payola so vote for us, the Deep State.

It was for sure a vote buying gimmick, just the same as when Trump doled out the first "covid relief" payouts.
Both were designed to buy votes.
Clearly neither worked.

It's the courts that will kill it.
It should be killed. I don't know if it will or not.

Though it is a shame to see people saddled with debt of questionable value for what they really got, it was their decision to receive the dubious benefit and take on the debt. Their decision. Their debt.

I think all student loans, .gov or otherwise, should be able to be discharged in a normal bankruptcy proceeding.....Life is hard, it's harder when you are a deadbeat.....Better to learn that lesson early-on.

True.
But at the same time it is important to remember why tuition has went through the roof the past 30 years.
And that is the government.
"No strings attached" student grants and loans where countless kids who either had no interest in getting an education, or simply has no business being in college got the money anyway. And then to boot - colleges across the nation got into the real estate business and started builing quad apartments everywhere to cash in on the - also - no strings attached paid rent and board.
The exact same thing that led to the housing crises, is the exact same thing that has led to the student loan crises.
What is the next industry the government will destroy?

This Un-Constitutional stunt could never make Republicans look bad ... to anyone who respects the Constitution and wants it upheld.

The kids that went to a trade school to learn a skill have no student debt and high paying jobs.

This is another example of the government saying "We're here to help you", but maybe instead of feeding from the trough, smart piggies would root in the dirt, rather than suck up what goes with the swill.

The lawsuits by the states took a hit when the court found out that MOHELA was not part of the lawsuit filed with their name included, this little trick was manifested by the AG of Missouri who is running for US senator, looks like it will die next week along with two refusals by the Supreme Court to stop the implementation of the debt relief.
