First SNAP Ban on Candy and Soda Set To Become Law

The only limitations are alcohol and tobacco for the most part, they can buy anything else they want to.
Right now. But there’s a proposal that they shouldn’t be able to waste 10% of the provided “nutrition funds” on soda.

I’m all for it. My parents wouldn’t let me drink soda when I was a kid because it was unhealthy, so why should taxpayers have to pay for it for people who can’t even afford their own food?

Because the government isn't your parents?

Why should taxpayers have to buy unhealthy food for poor people? If they want to eat crap and increase their odds of diabetes, we shouldn’t be forced to enable it.

Let them earn their own spending money. It would be a good lesson to show there is more freedom of choice when you earn money as opposed to depending on other people’s money.

Taxpayers aren't then buying them food. The government is.

So, you really seem to want to lord it over anyone who you think is getting free shit. Do you want to apply that logic consistently? Really? Should anyone getting "benefits" from the government be subject to your parent's rules?

They have the freedom to choose if they spend their OWN money. When they are using taxpayer funds, there are limitations.

Part of SNAP in this state includes X number of liquid funds. They could elect to use that instead of putting gas in their cars, pay for the cell phone, etc. Candy and the Soft Drinks should not be included in the SNAP card since funds are already allocated for them to use for them instead of that brick of weed, bag of heroin and other things.

The government IS the taxpayers.

The rest of your post is your holier-than-thou nonsense.

So, because your parents wouldn't let you drink sodas, you should be able to say what goes on in someone else's household. Miss me with that weak argument. Why are you so worried about someone buying a soda, some ice cream, some candy, etc.?

Because 1) they are using government funds which taxpayers provide, and 2) it is unhealthy and makes diabetes more likely, which will ALSO cost taxpayers.

If they want candy, let them buy it with their own money.

So, you have a problem with that, but you are ok with Trump spending 100 million dollars to have a military parade for his enjoyment. You are ok with him going to all of these sporting events spending millions of the taxpayers dollars. Should the Gov't dictate how Israel spends the billions that we send there?

I'm curious, if leftists get their way and we get saddled single payer (government provided) health insurance, will everyone be subject to your parents rules? Will you be whining about everyone with unhealthy habits, and insisting they follow your rules in order to get health care?

Of course it matters. It is called the Nutrition Supplement Program, so it makes perfect sense that purchases - through the taxpayer program - should be limited to nutritional items.

They are still free to buy candy and soda with any cash they get via TANF, or through earnings.
It is limited to nutrition…no alcohol, no cigarettes.

Restricting what nutrition they can purchase is not going to change behavior into a healthier lifestyle if that is what you are aiming at.

These people aren’t kids and you aren’t their parent.

They can't eat dignity but they can eat healthy food since they don't pay for it and citizens who don't know them do pay for it.
People pay for all kinds of stuff. That doesn’t give you the right to dictate what they do with it.

My tax money goes to pay for stuff like “school choice”…does that mean I can dictate what schools they can choose?

Why are you so focused on the poor getting free Soda and candy?

.

Banning soda and candy is stigmatizing the poor?

Ooooooooooooooooooooo-kay.

I grew up poor, and the tragic absence of candy and soda in my life did not stunt my growth.

.
I feel sorry for you that you not get the chance to experience multiple cavities in your teeth and stressed kidneys from having to process too much carbonated water through your system! It's a thrill and an experience that everyone should have! 🙄

Except the people we are talking about want to buy junk food with other people’s money.

You seem to think that welfare recipients are entitled to the same freedom of choice that people who use their OWN money get.

We don’t need to give handouts for candy and soda. It would be a good lesson for a welfare mom to teach her government-dependent children that life is better when you EARN your own money - and then let them shovel sidewalks or mow lawns or whatever to earn spending money.

Leftists like Coyote want to make sure that welfare people enjoy the same freedom of choice, using other people’s money, that responsible people enjoy by virtue of earning it.

Because we have this vile tag team going on. Democrats push tirelessly to expand government services, to increase our dependency on the state for our needs. And we-know-better Republicans use that dependency to bully people.

We were not accused of being bullies when we voted to feed the poor. Suddenly when we want them to eat healthy, we now are bullies.
