What if you paid into SNAP all your life then get sick and have to go on welfare.

You don't pay into SNAP. It is TAKEN from you to support those less fortunate. It is not Social Security. It is welfare. Disability is what pays you if your state provides it if you are disabled and in the states that provide disability, the INSURANCE is paid for by the recipient. You are confusing two totally different programs.

It is exactly as simple as I thought. Social Security and Welfare are not the same program. One is government charity and the other is literally an insurance policy. SNAP, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program is administered by USDA. BTW, they don't restrict oatmeal cookies. Monster Drinks, Soda Pop, Candy, etc. Yeah, they do. If you want to buy luxuries, get a job and support yourself (used figuratively--not a personal dig) and you have all the choices you want.

What percentage of those on assistance are there because of 'no fault of their own'? I'd bet that 90% plus of it is due to drug abuse and addiction.

People here are trying to apply a same solution to something that is not even a problem to a group of people who are on a program for 500 different reasons with a one-size-fits-all solution that only makes it harder for the most vulnerable people in our society to live using a power the government should never be given because it can only grow to spread into other areas of society! Wrong. Gas taxes are highway taxes in most cases. And yeah, in WA they just let a proposal to pay your registration fees by how many miles you drive die in committee. So nothing is above the democrats.

Welfare is given to families with dependent children even if they've never paid a dime in taxes. SS is "old age INSURANCE" The premiums are paid during your working years. Not a government benefit--a policy that is administered by the government.

That is all I'm asking people is to THINK.

I am thinking. Personally, I think ALL welfare should be discontinued. There is nothing in the constitution that says the government is responsible for feeding the citizenry. Because they do--it is only logical that there should be some restrictions be placed on what can be purchased with the money the government gives them.

What if the whole point to your being on SNAP

SNAP isn't given to the disabled. That would be SSI or Supplemental Security Insurance that is given to disabled people or those with limited or no income. SSI is a Social Security program--an insurance, not welfare. Totally different programs administered by different depts.
If someone is on getting tax dollars for nothing, there should be restrictions which is the topic of the OP

Food Commodities--I was raised on them in the '50's and early '60's...and what happened is what I said...LBJ started his War on Poverty...and giving people access to the same selection of food as everyone else had seemed..and I know this is way out of style..seemed fair.
The untended consequence..at least unintended for the Govt.--was the success that the grocery industry owed to the Food Stamp program.

Yeah but, too late. You see, society has already been molded around social programs for about the past 80 years now, and rightly so in some cases, really, how do you justify anything else in a truly prosperous, civil society? But as a result, much of our society and culture is now long since has been /built/ upon having some social cushion, no one wants to see 18th-19th century conditions around again, especially not in the preeminent 1st world country, so you can't just rip it away like a bandaid without catastrophic consequences, and now, sadly, people are arguing over a can of pop for a child now without even carrying forward what all that really leads us to as a society now and into the future--- not whether or not these people even deserve the dignity of buying what they choose to eat and drink, but really whether it is the government's place to be in charge of supervising that the creation of a caste system of classes of people now in a society supposedly standing for self-determination.

No, but disability isn't even given to probably half the people in this country who deserve it because the state fights tooth and nail for years to try to keep people from qualifying. And of those qualifying, probably a third of them are running a scam and cheating the government.

The bill now heads to Idaho Governor Brad Little's desk to be signed.

SNAP benefits—also known as "food stamps"—are administered nationwide to low- and no-income households that would otherwise struggle to purchase groceries. In the 2024 fiscal year, the program served 130,900 Idaho residents, or 7 percent of the state population. But numerous states are considering banning certain purchases from being made using the anti-poverty benefit, Idaho being the first to pass a bill in both chambers.
The passage and potential signing of the bill does not necessarily mean Idaho's SNAP recipients in Idaho will be immediately impacted, as the ban will be subject to U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) approval.

No waivers are currently in place in any state that bar SNAP recipients from buying foods based on their nutritional value. However, this could be subject to change under the current Trump administration. Newsweek has contacted the USDA for comment via email.

There is also a push at the federal level to see junk food purchases banned. In January, U.S. Representative Josh Brecheen, a Republican from Oklahoma, introduced the Healthy SNAP Act, which would make soft drinks, candy, ice cream and prepared desserts ineligible from being purchased using SNAP benefits.

Yeah, count me as not wanting my tax money going toward type 2 diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure and heart disease.
