Farmers recovering from Trump trade wars embrace Democratic policy

You guys are missing the point. Yep. Trump promised that he cared about farmers then he killed their trade. They are finding out Biden’s policies help them and have made trade in this world easier, not harder. We’ll see if they are smart enough to vote for self interests or get pulled into the culture war bullshit of the GOP. All complaints, no solutions, and bad economies are what the GOP bring. That’s documented.

Big Ag loved Trump and they love Democrats who feed them subsidies. Some middle class hobbyists who like playing 'Country Squire' on theire little plantations don't feed many people and subsidizing them and their country estates isn't the Fed's job and neither Party should be subsidizing stripping off our topsoil to feed the likes of Red China and continuing that ridiculous corn subsidy and doctoring gas with ethanol garbage.

Government payments to farmers have surged to historic levels under President Donald Trump as the Agriculture Department floods the industry with cash to stem the financial losses from Trump’s tariff fights and the coronavirus pandemic.

But as agriculture grows more reliant on unprecedented taxpayer support, farm policy experts and watchdog groups warn the subsidies are growing too big and too fast, with no strings attached and little oversight from Congress — and that Washington could have a difficult time shutting off the spigot.

Direct farm aid has climbed each year of Trump’s presidency, from $11.5 billion in 2017 to more than $32 billion this year — an all-time high, with potentially far more funding still to come in 2020, amounting to about two-thirds of the cost of the entire Department of Housing and Urban Development and more than the Agriculture Department’s $24 billion discretionary budget.

The narrative that the GOP cares about farmers is being torn down, not by rhetoric of GOP leaders, but by the actions of Democrat leadership. Farmers are being won over by actual results as farmers realize that stability and rational actions trump Trump rhetoric. Duh….

Donald Trump often espoused his love for America's farmers during his presidency. But after a year under President Joe Biden, farmers say they're actually feeling the love.

"Well, certainly the difference between 2019 and 2021 is the differences in administrations," Montana Farmers Union President Walter Schweitzer said in an interview. "In 2019, our administration was at war with all of our customers." Under Biden, he said, the nation is "rebuilding our relationships with our customers."

Vincent Smith, a visiting fellow at the right-leaning American Enterprise Institute, said the Trump administration "severely disadvantaged" farmers with an ill-advised trade policy.

"I think the real optimism in agriculture is that we've got a president that is willing to stand up to these corporate monopolies and tell them 'enough is enough.' You need to play fairly, you need to share your profits," Schweitzer said.

First of all thats NBC News who cant be trusted to produce a non artisan story

second, what are the facts?

NBC does not provide any

just a couple of anti trump quotes from some guy who sounds like a marxist

what probably should happen is a total ban on food exports to china till the communist dictatorship is overthrown

Run on that. Please.
I would

farmers are like squirrels running on a wheel

1643645645662.jpeg

they have been told they must feed the world

But to do so requires them to be mortgaged to the hilt for expensive self-driving machines with all the latest technology such as GPS and data uploads to satellites

and they need vast amounts of costly chemical fertilizer

then they have to sell their souls to the chinese just to break even

it begins to make squirrels look like the lucky ones

If we dont choose to feed china US farmers can work at a slower pace and still survive just as well

I didn't know that farmers had a union. Maybe Mr. Schweitzer is just a political hack who represents a handfull of disgruntled democrats. He claims that the 2019 Trump administration was "at war with all our customers"? What the hell does that mean? Maybe the customers in question were in freaking China. Now under Biden the customers "feel the love"? This isn't a logical statement by a real Ag. spokesman, it's a lame political ad for a guy who probably can't find Montana on a map. Look at the empty shelves in supermarkets today. Farmers depend on cheap fossil fuel energy perhaps more than any other class of workers and they are getting hammered by high oil prices courtesy of the Biden administration incoherent policies.

Some farmers are doing quite well.....
Of course they only raise corn and soybeans for the ethanol.
A lot of them get paid good money leasing chunks of land for windmills, they generally 35 year contracts.

In the Texas panhandle you can see threefers:

windmills, oil pumps and cotton

for some farmers life us good when they are not slaves to china

Our swine producers won't like that. China recently suffered a massive disease epidemic that killed millions of hogs.

True. There's an ecological disaster taking place in the countryside thanks to 'modern' agriculture.

^^^ This. Feeding such a criminal regime and ruining our own topsoil in the process is just ridiculous.

We're developing one of our own epidemics here, via the huge population of wild hogs running amuck in some states. They're infecting domestic swine with diseases that were wiped out decades ago and are now on the verge of resurging in the domestic swine as well as deer and other wildlife.

I'm sure SOME farmers are all in for demented rapist Biden, just as MANY farmers were all in for Trump.

The cited article is basically an op-ed, and as such is worthless from a broader factual perspective.
