Songs to me many times have a message from the Spirit if we can hear it. This one has been on my mind a lot lately as humans seem to want to dictate to other humans what they will have to do themselves to just do the basic things to sustain life. Truth is most are not mature enough to rule in their own thoughts, actions and reactions so why should they be afforded any opportunity to rule over others?

Matthew 11:12 KJV: And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

Original by Tears For Fears first released on March 18, 1985 on the album Songs from the Big Chair, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"

Welcome to your life
There's no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you

Acting on your best behaviour
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world

It's my own design
It's my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most

Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

There's a room where the light won't find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I'll be right behind you

So glad we've almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world

I can't stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you'll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world

All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

Certain people want to rule the world?

I suppose if you want to run a violent insane asylum.

Just think, all this could be yours.

I’m quite impressed with those lyrics. It was always a great song without ever understanding the words. So is Shout (imo). Someone once sent me a revised version of Lennon’s beautiful melody.

Imagine there’s a heaven
It’s easy if you try
Though hell below us
Above us Mercy in the sky
Imagine all the people
Praying for that day
You may say I’m a dreamer
But I’m not the only one
I hope some day you’ll join us
Though our world may suffer on

Love this, and so true. Should I admit that I find modern "Christian" music often vapid and find more meaning in sometimes "accidentally" spiritual secular music?

Stumbled on the old gem "Signs" the other day. Back when liberals were actually, you know, LIBERAL. WHOA. I was almost blown away by the ending. Look where he finds acceptance:

Signs

Five Man Electrical Band

And the sign said
"Long-haired freaky people
Need not apply"
So I tucked my hair up under my hat
And I went in to ask him why
He said, "You look like a fine upstandin' young man
I think you'll do"
So I took off my hat and said, "Imagine that
Huh, me workin' for you"
Whoa

Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?

And the sign said
"Anybody caught trespassin'
Will be shot on sight"
So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house
"Hey! What gives you the right
To put up a fence to keep me out
But to keep Mother Nature in?
If God was here, he'd tell you to your face
'Man, you're some kind of sinner'"

Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?

Now, hey you, mister, can't you read?
You got to have a shirt and tie to get a seat
You can't even watch, no, you can't eat
You ain't supposed to be here
The sign said, "You've got to have a membership card
To get inside"
Uh

And the sign said
"Everybody welcome
Come in, kneel down and pray"
But when they passed around the plate at the end of it all
I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and a paper
And I made up my own little sign
I said, "Thank you, Lord, for thinkin' 'bout me
I'm alive and doin' fine"
Woo!

Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Blockin' out the scenery
Breakin' my mind
Do this, don't do that
Can't you read the sign?
Sign, sign
Everywhere a sign
Sign

I love Neil Diamond's songs and his story too. The Lord surely does choose the foolish things and His Spirit does most definitely walk among His people even if the earthly flesh suffers due to the earthly choices made.
