New restaurant QR rule has boomers raging, and plenty of other diners don't like it either

QR-only menus spread fast when restaurants wanted contactless service and fewer shared touchpoints. What began as a practical pandemic fix slowly hardened into a default rule at many tables.

That rule now annoys far more people than the early hype suggested. Recent Ipsos polling found that 58% wanted to go back to paper menus, while only 39% hoped QR-menu use would continue.

Older diners do react more negatively than younger ones, but they are not alone in the backlash. Restaurant Dive reported that 47% of consumers were uncomfortable using QR codes in restaurants, including 65% of people age 60 and older.

That means the real story is not boomers versus everyone else. It is a broader fight over whether a restaurant should make dinner easier or quietly turn the customer into part of the workflow.

People objected to screens at the table, clunky reading experiences, and the feeling that dinner was becoming work.

I've ran into that once and told the counter guy if you can't take my order like a human being I'll go someplace else that will.
I have food delivered rather than dining out.

Restaurant food is not that good....nor is it fast.
However it is very expensive.
Because it is ALL ABOUT THE SERVICE.

Take the service out of it and it's worthless.
Lousy food, lousy service but high prices?
I'm going "NOPE" and never returning.

I can get a bucket of fried chicken from a grocery store and mix my own instant mashed potatoes and have packet gravy for a third of the price and very little hassle.

LOL....Have you ever seen the inside of Joe Blow's rusted-out shitbox of a delivery vehicle?

Hell, I bet the inside of those bags they use to keep you food warm have not been washed in a coon's age.
The deliveries are prompt and the food is delicious.

Dude this is not my argument. I love QR codes. The argument was came up that menus are not hygienic, and then someone said well phones are just as bad; my point was WE have control of how dirty our own phones are.

I think the best argument for QR code menus is that they can update daily specials.
I’m fine with scanning a QR code being an option

But restaurants should still provide a physical menu for those you don’t want to use their phones

Many restaurants are moving away from physical service because of the increased cost of doing business.

I have always had a menu given to me, so I believe it’s a policy not a rule.

LOL....I never thought such a mundane thing would result in four pages of responses.....

I guess folks are getting tired of the high prices combined with lackluster service and they still expect a big tip.

And now they want to have you working for them! What's next, will they want you to bus your table and wash your dishes? ;)

I know, put a dishwasher next to your table and you can get the clean dishes and silverware yourself and put the dirty ones in when you are done.

Maybe a table wet stone to sharpen-up the dull-ass steak knives....No job too small for the customer.

I'm no great cook, but I'm certainly good enough that many restaurant meals are not as good as I can make at home, and make it cheaper with fresher ingredients.

What I love about living in my small town -- huge garden, pantry full of canned vegetables, freezer full of meat from a trusted local farmer.

Homemade soup today! It's snowing, so a good day for homemade soup!

A. If you don't like it, go somewhere else. Starting a Karen Rampage just makes you look like the brainless fucktard you are.

B. If you want to "fight new tech", then find out who OWNS the place and write THEM. Don't start foaming at the mouth to the employees as they have NO CONTROL over what the company or owners do.

C. Nobody invited you there. You went of your own free will. So suck it up and deal with it, or go someplace else.
Going someplace else is exactly what I would do. I wouldn’t even sit down. They would get a very poor rating on any survey I was offered.

I stopped eating at a restaurant owned by an associate of mine because they went to a “No Weapons”policy. I made it very clear to the owner why my wife and I stopped showing up. I also made their new policy well known among the local firearms and self-defense communities. I understand their sales are down 10-12% since they made that change.

That's how you gig them! Eateries are very sensitive to patron reviews due to competition.

It might be 'their place, their rules" but that does not mean patrons should not let it be known that they are dissatisfied with them.

I dunno. Sometimes, and more so lately, I, for one, get so tired of the same old stuff on here every single day. It's like that movie Groundhog Day. Basically end up logging on...thinking meh...same old pissing contest about the same old stuff...then I log off and go about my day.

Threads like this are at least a little break from that if you're gonna be on here.

I really do try.....I get tired of the same ol crap here. Some people here seem to have one track minds.....Mostly TDS related.

That is so cute. You catholics come up with some crazy stuff. The bible doesn't say no meat on Fridays so I'm eating it! God Bless America.
.

I'm so new at being Catholic -- only two years -- that I don't understand a lot of why we do many things. I'm learning.

It is very cute.

Yes, I was baptised a catholic but quickly realized that these people are absolutely and totally whack. They do SO MANY THINGS that are either not in the bible, or the bible SPECIFICALLY states that these things are wrong. Such as catholics teaching that saying hail marys and our fathers will forgive sins, yet the bible is absolutely specific stating that ONLY forgiveness from God will result in the forgiveness of sins. NOT earthly acts, and certainly not confessing sins to another sinner (like a priest.)

I could go on forever, but it's off topic. Just read the bible and I think you'll quickly wonder why you're catholic at all.

No, no one has ever stated that praying a Hail Mary or an Our Father will forgive sins. I think you have been listening to the same lies that most Lutherans believe.
