Zone1 Even if you don't believe in God, It's better to be religious

There's a perspective where burning witches and molesting kids is a good thing? Do tell.

Again, sounds like a lot of excuse-making to me.

"Look not on our sins but on the faith of our Church"

Name me a single organization on Earth that has over 2 billion members and is "perfect"? How about one with 2 million members? How about one with 200 members? How about one with 2 members?

Your accusations are against specific people - during specific times throughout HUMAN history - that's right - it's YOUR history as well.

Abusing children and killing innocent people are unthinkable acts - among the worst in history.

But when you generalize and condemn billions and billions of people for the acts of a few dozen or a few hundred you are "condemning" innocent people - the very thing you are accusing The Church of doing.

If you don't agree with the Church or don't believe in God - that is up to you - but persecuting those who do - in good faith - does that make you a better person?

I don't condemn billions of people. I was brought up Catholic, and most of my family are still practicing Catholics. (The Catholic Chruch only has a Billion members, by the way.)

I do condemn a church leadership that thought Crusades, Inquisitions, hiding pedophile priests, or collaborating with some of the worst regimes in history, was okay somehow.

the truth is the crimes are written in their bibles - false self serving commandments - catechisms et al - the congregations are more than happy to observe and sanctioned by their clergy and do so repeatedly throughout history for their own gratuities to persecute and victimize the innocent.

What does it mean to be "religious"?
You obey the Commandments - even the little ones between the lines. You are kind, patient, and considerate. You go to Church. You pray when it is appropriate to pray. You give your available time and money to the Church and/or to charity. You structure some of your life around the Sabbath and religious holy days. You join organizations that further your religiosity. You say the things that believers are (more or less) obliged to say. You help your spouse to be religious, and you teach your children to be like you. When your kids' "activities" conflict with significant religious observances, the religious observances take precedence.
OR, you could be un-religious, non-religious, or anti-religious. In which case you do "what you think is 'right,'' you are considerate when it is in your own best interest to be considerate. You never pray, your Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are devoted to self-absorbed pleasure seeking. You vote for Democrats and consider yourself "empathetic" by doing so. You tell yourself and others that you are a "good" person. You marry someone who is as indifferent to religion as you are and avoid associating with religious "fanatics." You teach your kids to be similarly unreligious, so there is never any issue with religious stuff interfering with soccer practice, play dates, or screen time.
I submit that whether you believe in God or any particular theological structure or not, it is better to live in the former way than the latter. Christian, Mormon, 7DA, whatever. Religiosity is the better way to live.

So many wrong headed beliefs in this thread.

There's between 1.2 Billion and 1.4 Billion Roman Catholics the world (depending on the source) and hundreds of thousands more when considering the Eastern Orthodox Catholic Church.

No Bible or Catholic organization I am aware of instructs to "Persecute and/or Victimize the innocent"

Now if Catholics/Christians do that - that is on them - but it is has never been taught by any credible Catholic source - not in my time, anyway.

Though it is most likely antithetical of christian ethos to wage a war under its banner , or to force conversion , what is the basis for condemnation of crusades to expel fictional ishmaelism from the iberian peninsula that does include an ethos to wage war under its banner and to force conversion ?

In case you have not noticed the theistic communists ( catholic ideology ) and theistic socialists ( fictional ishmaelism ideology ) conscripted tithing from us government through an illegal immigration gravy train and the same now want tax payer funded religious education , indoctrination and proselytization to captive audiences of children through private school vouchers , which will create segregation and further facilitate sectarian supremacy .

Citizens of etas unis must forsake such treason against us 1st amendment and assure that taxpayers only fund public contracts for non sectarian products or services , irrespective of whether a sectarian competes for and provides the non sectarian products or services .

Allow me to speak freely. This is not to offend anyone but I know I'm about to offend people. My friend calls me last night and he mentions that his brother thinks he's getting into heaven just for being a good guy. I said sure why not? Suddenly the JESUS switch flipped on and he said all the typical brainwashed Christian says. All the same things that were said to them that worked on them. Do you know where you are going to go when you die? Isn't it better to be safe than sorry? I have an answer for all these things and I rapidly answered all his stupid questions. I told him fear of hell should have nothing to do with getting me to believe something. Then of course he goes on into how you just have to have faith. He asked me if I knew about the darkness that exists just before sun down. That time in between light and dark. You can't explain it right sealybobo? Well some things are real and just can't be explained.

I asked him, "when you go to church and you hear a sermon, do you know what the **** that guy is saying? Because I just listened to one and the guy was all over the place.

He then tells me how the bible covers everything. What book that is 2000 years old does that? I said yes, and it even contradicts itself. Then I point out that it says so much that even slave masters used the bible to justify slavery. Yes indeed the books is the ramblings of mad men, written 2000 years ago. 26 years after Jesus supposedly rose from the grave. Not even written by anyone who was there. Might have been written 226 years after it happened.

I told him since humanity, there have been 10,000 organized religions. I said you're an atheist too pal. The only difference between you and me is you believe 1 of those 10,000 religions. Other than that, you and I are atheists about the other 9999 religions. RIGHT? He didn't know what to say. I said "it's clearly man made and you bought into the one that's most popular in your country. Congrats".

This is why I've given up on people. They are too unevolved. Too primative. Uncivilized. No wonder so many are so willing to believe anything they are told. They've been programmed since birth.

When we say the lords prayer, I feel like we are all being brainwashed. Sure religion makes you feel good but so does crack.

What you said makes no sense. Say it again.

Nordic Gods are made up. Like I told my friend. There have been 10,000 religions in the last 10,000 years. He's an atheist too (and before I could finish my point he said NO I'M NOT) so you know he's just brainwashed and doesn't want to hear logic, reason or reality. He wants to talk about YOU GOT TO HAVE FAITH. Translation. Wishful thinking.

Anyways, I said "Listen to me for a second. There have been 10,000 religions in the last 10,000 years. You and I are both atheists about 9999 of those religions. YOU just believe one of them."

If you would never join another religion because yours is the only one true religion, well at least you know how I feel about yours. Just look at how you view Mormons, Muslims, Jews. Shit. Jews say Jesus wasn't the Messiah. Maybe I'm a Jew? I certainly agree with them on that.

Some atheists define 'atheism' as lack of belief in God(s). Catholics define 'atheism' as the rejection of God. We don't reject Zeus; we hold no belief in him. Our belief is that there is one God, and we do not reject him.

Ask your atheist friends: Do you reject God? How many will respond 'Yes' and how many will respond, 'I don't believe in God'?

Yea, we aren't rejecting God. We are rejecting your religion. The claim that God talked to anyone. A lot of us are completely open to the idea that a god might exist. Same as we do aliens. There are lots of stories out there about aliens. Do you believe they have visited? I'm agnostic atheist about both subjects. I see no evidence and I reject any ones story. I would need more evidence.

Great comparison. Glad I thought of it.

Then I am glad, too. ;)

This is one of the common mistakes theists make. We say we don't believe their religion is real and they say "why are you rejecting god". Do you see the mistake they are making? God would have to be real and we would have to see him, and THEN reject him for that to be true. Who would do that? I would give him a big hug and say where you been big guy? I've been looking all over for you. My whole life. Listen, is this bible real? I freakin knew it!

OMG. God just visited me and said I'm the new Messiah. He told me you should all bow down to me. I can't offer any proof but send me all your money.

No? Why are you rejecting GOD? Have faith in me like you ask me to have faith in you.
